Social liberalism is only possible in a society that is expanding in real wealth.

In a society in decline, like america, it's inevitable that hate-based right wing ideology will prevail, as people fight over the shrinking pool of real wealth.

Your best bet is to allow the hate-based regions to virtually secede, even if they dont have the balls to actually secede.

You can't stop hate. It's a brainstem survival strategy.

This is true, unfortunately. I used to teach English Grammar at the University Of Houston. This was a required course for those seeking a teaching degree. Many of my students didn't know the difference between a noun and a verb, even after the course. It's not because I didn't teach them. It's because they refused to learn. There were some good students, but not many.

Show me a religious genius! Just one! Confine it to the last 50 years. It is the only time in history that we have been truly free enough to really say what we think about god and religion. If I had lived 400 years ago, I would have probably been burned at the stake for my opinions.

In this time of relative freedom, show me ONE person who is a genius and who believes in talking snakes.

Vexes 03-13-2010 09:01 PM

It's Texas. Let Texas do things their own way - they ARE Conservative in Texas. Where have you been railing on Far-Left influences in California, New York? That is what made the US strong, we have 50 different experiments going on.

The voters have the ultimate vote - they can move with their feet, from state to state. Check out stats past 5 years.

There is still that terrible nuisance of the constitution to consider. Does using religion to edit publically paid for history books violate the separation principle?

But, who knows, maybe the supremes will decide that separation doesn't mean what it used to mean.

We are headed for a virtual balkanization in any case. The real jobs and real wealth are still leaving the country.

Circling the wagons with religious indoctrination won't stop that.

Replacing truth with propaganda makes kids more stupid. We already have one of the worst secondary education systems in the world. Kids in Canada are far more educated by the time they leave school than they are in the USA. We do have the best higher education system in the world but most of the grad students are here on visas from other countries. In the program I was in, US grad students made up less than 20% of the total, and most of those were women. The majority of my fellow grad students were from South Korea or China. They studied ALL THE TIME, day and night, while most of the US students were out partying. Our future might not be so bright.

I don't understand why someone can't believe in God etc and promote porn. Not all religious people are puffed up prudes.

Seriously some of you have some really strange and damaged outlooks on things.

If someone actually believes in the Bible then no he can't be involved in porn. If I believed in a all seeing God that had strict rules and the price for disobeying those rules were very bad things happening to me which may include death and most likely eternal damnation ina firey hell then I would sure to do everything he says.

what's weird to me is people that do actually bevieve in God and his powers and yet seemingly dare him to fuck them up by their disobediance or indifference to his rules and wishes. I mean that's fucking retarded

He's not an adult webmaster. He's just a troll.

BTW, if God exists, how do you KNOW he doesn't like porn?

That is a very good point, but if there actually is a real god, he is not like the god of the bible. Nobody knows anything about him, if he exists at all. He might or might not approve of porn. The god of the bible probably hated porn, but that god is a fairy-tale.

Belief in a God/Supreme Being/Creator and a belief in one of the multitude of Bibles are not synonymous

The mental technology of religion works by selectively resolving logical and verbal paradox, and selectively resolving and imposing guilt to justify animal behaviors.

So, it's actually entirely to be expected. Justification and guilt-transfer is the gift of religion.

That mental insulation is why brains using religion have been biologically successful.

California is a liberal state, we have a shitty education system. My daughter survived it. My nephew had a learning disability and had to move to Pennsylvania to find out about it. Now he's a straight "A" student.

I believe in god, not religion

Texas is full of dirtbags, I wouldn't live there for all the money in the world. And the 'patriots' in Texas are the first ones to spit on the Constitution when they don't like the result of following it. In fact, your governor just wanted to secede, how's that for 'patriotic'?. You make a claim and then refuse to back it up. A rational person like myself might conclude that your refusal is a lame attempt to save face because you don't know what the FUCK you're talking about.

Why do you continue to post on a board where absolutely nobody likes you? What a fucking troll!

My level of intelligence may be in question...but I consider myself to be a secularist in that I think public education and other matters of civil policy should be conducted without the introduction of a religious element. There are a multitude of churches for those that care to learn about religion.

I am also an agnostic in that I think that all claims to knowledge of God/Supreme Being/Creator is uncertain at best.

Governor Perry said they should secede. What do we need to do to get it done?

I've spent some time in Texas and felt like I was in a time warp as soon as I left a major city.

The governor down there is a joke. The first example that came to mind ... he acts like he is against stimulus spending and then used federal stimulus money to rebuild his house.

Pathfinder is right, you are wrong. The current bible was chosen at a conclave of the catholic church by a pope, there were dozens of books they could have chosen from to make the official New Testament. In fact, they could have done a better job of it. The books they chose are full of contradictions between each other.
