Don't Buy .XXX Domain Names When They Come Out

What is the point? Why bother supporting this insanity?

If this extension is not obligatory for adult, why bother jumping onboard?

Boycott the extension by not joining in - simple as that.

It wont work like that... every domainer will be snaping them all up and holding them ransom to the porn industry

u can already buy them, do a search. Whether ICANN will honor those already purchased is the real issue.

If everyone in the biz could stick to their guns on this, and not buy .xxx directly or through domainers, it would still be okay. It would prove the worthlessness of the extension.

Of course this is the same industry that couldn't stand together against piracy, tubes, cross sales, etc. - so I guess this will be just another way to screw ourselves, and work against our own best interests.

Yippy!

I was actually reading something about this on a domain forum. They were discussion where to buy them one of the guys said that the adult guys(meaning us) are not intrested in the .xxx and 96% of us are shunning them.

sex.xxx is already trademarked

But I bet they will be snapped up as soon as they become available

You are seriously asking this of an industry whose entire raison d'être is to make the maximum amount of cash with the least moral or social encumbrance

You know plenty of people will be out there buying up the domains... there is going to be squatting galore and the same players who tried to sell us all out the first 4 times they tried pushing this through still stand to profit.

Follow the money and see who you come up with .

Personally, I pledge to never buy any non-mandatory .XXX domain name... and to sue anyone who infringes on my trademarks. So add me to the list of people who won't be buying .XXX domain names.

People will buy them, it doesnt work like that. Not in adult, not anywhere. People will take a chance and risk a nice amount of money for top keywords, on a shitty extension.

How did it go with all the other "booming" new tld's.

How about .tv, people paid a shitload of money for top keywords, just a little problem, google doesnt change their algoritm for it. So those people have a hell of a time trying to get them to rank.

Same will go with the .xxx domains, i will be buying, but i KNOW that as long as people will be typing in .com after whatever in their browser AND as long as google doesnt put a new algoritm in place that will boost ranks on .xxx domains if they are searching for adult: It will be another disaster.

If both change, it will be nice, if not it will be the same thing all over again.

Unfortunetly if they do come out with them people will buy. You have a lot of people in the domain business that could give a shit about the adult industry as long as they can buy and sell and make money. Can't really blame them either.

Not to mention a lot of the people in our industry with the shot themselves in the foot for a buck type mentality.

Agreed. And yeah, some people will buy... but it's a matter of how MANY people buy.

From what I know of the .XXX people, I am pretty confident in predicting that they will indeed lobby Congress and try to suggest that they become mandatory. If that doesn't work (and there are already senators who have signed on for that) then they will go to private industries and try to get them to have rules demanding .XXX extensions for adult sites.

The more money the industry people give these guys, the more they'll have to use against the industry. Sadly, I have very little faith this industry will do the right thing. Selfish greed seems to win 99% of the time. We saw that with TGP sites, then with "tube" sites. We'll probably see it again, sadly. I know that I won't contribute to it, but little good that's likely to do in the end. And an already difficult business will get more difficult.

BTW, pay attention to the companies and organizations that are being oddly uncritical of Lawley and .XXX .... some of them made deals with Lawley back in the day, behind our backs.

.xxx will never be a government mandated ghetto for adult sites. they know what the repercussions are.

and people are well aware of who made what deals with who.

smile in their faces and do what you gotta do when you see them.

They really don't have to do all of that and honestly I think it is a waste of their time. Domain buyers and people in the adult industry will buy up millions of domains without any sort of legislation forcing them to do so. So many people are looking to make a buck, it will be a huge land grab once it kicks off. Unfortunetly, if it happens, these fuckers will make tens of millions. By the time any legislation would be passed (if ever) just about every domain name combination that makes sense would have been registered already.

No matter what people say here everyone with a decent .com domain or a site that gets a decent amount of traffic will buy the .xxx or someone else will buy it.

Do I think .xxx will be popular or common, probably not. I don't think most people would use it, with the exception of the key words like "porn.xxx" "sex.xxx" "tube.xxx" etc... that will likely get a lot of type in traffic from people curious to see what is there. But I am sure those domains wont be sold to the general public for normal reg fees they are going to be auctioned off for 100K's.

At the end of the day I think there will never be any legislation forcing us to use it, it wont become very popular other than the big key words, and 3-4 years from now a lot of domains bought in the initial land grab probably wont be renewed. The only people making bank from it will be fucking Lawley... i hope this doesn't go through.

Why would they penalize it if it is a legit authorized tld ? If anything I think they might be more likely to give it more credit than a .com if there is adult related content on the site.

yeah, there is no comparison. How many kids sites are on the net? How many porn sites? lol. They would have likely sold a couple hundred .kids domains vs a couple million .xxx

Let's petition for .adu and .sex then.

The more useless tld's to choose from, the more meaningless they will become.

People will get confused and just go back to the standard and trusted .com's.

Protect the children! Let's make .ADU and .SEX a reality!

I respect your cynicism, you know the industry.

Sadly, the people who least deserve to profit in business often find ways to sleaze to the top. There's an excellent chance that ICM Registry will profit from .XXX ... but they won't get a penny of my money.

Poker.ORG just sold for 1M

You think .xxx vanity names are likely to be ignored by speculators?

what are you talking about?
people will buy xxx domains and if google will rank .xxx higher than .com with adult content - they will worth $$$. I dont see any other way to make .xxx popular for webmasters in near (1-2 years) future.

Telling people not to buy .xxx domains is just the same as telling people not to build tube sites.

I'm not buying any; I believe it's a scam and a trap and I won't support it.

Not going to register mine, and if any fool does I'll just yank it from them. Plus I will try to have ICM be named in a criminal conspiracy for selling the names to them to start with.

With all the countries trying to setup mandatory adult filters like Australia, etc., the last thing I want is to be caught in the "ghetto" where they just block the TLD. Anybody want to show me where ICM has 10s of millions of dollars tucked away in reserve to take on governments.
