Alexander McQueen found dead, poss suicide

WOW! So young!

I dunno how many here will care, but pretty tragic.

Quote:
The British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead at his London home at the age of 40.

His body was discovered at his property in Green Street, in London's West End, shortly after 10am today. Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A postmortem has been scheduled but police said his death was not being treated as suspicious. They would not comment on reports he had killed himself.

A spokeswoman for McQueen said: "Mr McQueen was found dead this morning at his home. We're devastated and I hope you understand that out of respect to his family and his colleagues we're not going to be making any further statement."

His death comes just days before the start of London fashion week and a month before he was to unveil his new collection at Paris fashion week.

His family asked for privacy to come to terms with the death of McQueen, whose first name was Lee.

i've been out of the fashion apparel bidness for many years now but it's a stressful industry, the pressure to create a new ultra-fabulous look each and every season is insane.

Me too! Fucking amazing stuff. I'm not a huge fashionista, but I could watch his runway all day long. Perfect mix of classical and modern. Very edgy aethetic, pushed the envelope but never took it to the point where it became distasteful or over the top, IMO.

Hard for me to put into words, I just really respect his vision, and I'm pretty shocked right now.

I can imagine, he just seemed so on top of it and ahead of the game, like he wrote his own rules. He seemed so untouchable.

Like if you take someone like Marc Jacobs, who's working for LV and has all these commercial lines and has to stay on trend, I can only imagine.. it just seemed to me like Alexander McQueen was setting his own trends, existing in his own space. I know he also had a wearable line too, I just alway felt that he was about dramatic couture, but I suppose people at every level feel they answer to their critics.

Maybe his years of success had left him drained and feeling creatively bankrupt. I can understand and identify with that. Just such a waste of talent

I'm not a fashionista either, but he was so talented, and his creations made me want to be one, if that makes sense.

I sell stuff other than adult, and ironically enough, I just shipped out my last piece from the Alexander McQueen for MAC collection this morning.

also, those fashion fags are huge drama queens and can get their blood boiling over trivial bs. while tragic, the timing of his death is notable.

He was an incredible designer. That is so sad how heartbroken he was over his mothers death. May they both rest in peace.

Terrible news! Such a brilliant designer. He's one of my favorite fashion designers (my all-time favorite is Vivienne Westwood). I'm still shocked by the news of his death while writing this, hadn't heard or read it yet. And yes that is really sad how heartbroken he was over his mothers death. RIP Lee.

Yeah real tragic. This jackass threw away his life. Most people can only dream about having millions of $'s, fans and opportunity and here's this guy with seemingly everything and he throws it away. Meanwhile a state trooper died in the line of duty http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbc...NEWS/906090325, leaving 3 kids of his own behind one being 2 years old. Yeah real shame the fashion guy killed himself. What a joke.

When will people praise the people that put their lives on the line for a cause instead of this jacked up bullshit celebrity shit. Who gives a fuck, seriously. Most people don't even know who MCQueen was and highly doubtful that many wore his stuff. Cry me a fucking river.

that's the stupidiest fucking analogy i've ever heard, even on gfy.

you might want to step back and realize art's contribution to culture and the joy it brings many people, regardless of another's choice to protect and serve that same community.

That's the definition of tragedy. Having it all and being so flawed and / or internally conflicted that even when on top of the game and envied by many life is still not worth living and is thrown away. That's tragic. Its tragic that he was unable to enjoy the spoils of his labor, it's tragic that culture and society has lost a creative and inspirational source of art.

That is also a tragic story. I'm sure it's very tragic for his family, for the children he will leave behind. By discussing one I'm not shitting on or prioritizing one above the other. One is international news and is a point of conversation because his life's work touched people on an international level. I'm confident the state trooper will be honored and mourned locally by the people he knew and the citizens of the juridiction he put his life on the line to protect. The loss of the designer is mourned by the people who's lives he touched.
