Basic site promotion

Can I get some guidance on building traffic to a site?

Knowing every site is different, in general, what are the most effective site promotion techniques -
Link exchange, SEO, buying traffic?

Thx

First method everyone does when they're first starting out a new website are car windshield flyers. These are the most effective way to build traffic quickly. Then there's door hangers. Easy way to let people know of great promotions you're having, and excellent for distributing coupons. If you don't want to get all fancy, then of course there's good old fashion door-to-door... if you want to get back to grass roots.

Let's not forget cold calling. Don't let a "no" get you discouraged. The more "no" you hear, the closer you are to getting a "yes!".

Then if you want to get all trendy, you can hang a sandwich board around your neck and dance on center-dividers in busy intersections. All the guys are doing that lately.

Oh and let's not forget the 1-800-GOT-JUNK method... park your wrapped cars on EVERY overpass across an entire city that has the URL of your site.

If you REALLY want to go guerrilla, and be featured on the big television news outlets, I strongly recommend this: Go spray-paint your URL on the most high-profile buildings in your city. Let's say you live in San Francisco. A great place to spray paint a huge artistic logo would be the Trans America building. Another great one would be San Francisco City Hall. This method is GUARANTEED to get you fantastic traffic!

link exchanges and traffic trades can drive some great traffic as long as your site is getting traffic to send in return. SEO is the best by all means but takes time and hard work. Might also wanna include directory submissions, article submissions, social bookmarking, and viral marketing.

You can buy traffic, but then after you are done buying traffic your traffic will drop back to zero again. You have to trade links with other sites for stable long-term traffic.
