Getting Lasik Tomorrow

...any tips? I've got my prescription eyedrops, a couple weeks worth of artificial tears, a ride home, etc... They say I will have to keep my eyes shut for 6 hours after the procedure.

make sure the room is 100% dark when they map out the surgery...or else you MAY experience nightime "HALOS" around lights.

That is what causes it? One place I did a consultation at does a second laser procedure after the lasik to enhance your night vision...

I've had halos in my night vision all my life so I'm not sure how much worse it could get.

I have -2.0 in one eye :/ I hate glasses too. Contact lenses aren't that bad though this lasik stuff sounds pretty good. Please update us when you get back after and good luck.

I'm -1.75 and -2.0 and also considering Lasik for a few years now, but afraid of getting blind or something like that in my late 20s (or at any age for that matter, it just sucks).. How do they know (since everything Lasik related is relatively new) that patients wont go blind in lets say their 60's ? 30 years from now..

I had mine done in Honolulu 4 years ago and still have better than perfect vision. Totally painless, and I was out having a steak at Cheesecake Factory the same night.

Congrats on getting the surgery done. I did it about 2 years ago. One of the best things i ever did. If i would have known how much of a difference it makes i would have done it years earlier.

It's about time

After the initial "Fade to Black" which is kinda trippy, basically just follow the procedures relating to the drops and sleep with the eye shields taped on and you should be fine

I was -3.7 and -5. Had it done about 7 years ago. They did a technique called Customvue. No nigt vision problems at all. He left one eye just a bit underadjusted so that In shouldn't need reading glasses anytime soon.

One off the best things I've ever done!

i just checked for local surgeons and found out that it's about $950 per eye - i thought it's much more expensive. now i am seriously considering it - but i'll wait till you're done first ;)

ps: i am like -3,5 on both eyes - without glasses i don't even find home

i just checked again and it's about 30% less than I would pay in germany. and i dont think its that bad - considering that quality glasses are like $400-$500 and you need special sunglasses too. i'll look into this

If anyone lives in or around Montreal and would like to get it done, let me know. My sister is a surgical tech there and I can get you 10% if you're interested.

Both my sister and mother have had it done and they say it's one of the best decisions they've ever made!

your eyes must be 100% dilated when they map out the surgery.. if they are slightly non-dilated, then that causes the halo.

I doubt you will regret it. I had a radial keratotomy about 30 years ago and I have not regretted it for one second. Lasik would be a piece of cake comparatively speaking.

this will change your life big time.... Got it 5 years ago and never regret it. A true miracle

I was kinda -1.80. Make sure they dont do both eyes at the same time though. Usually they start with your dominant eye and they do the other one 24H later...

No need to worry, the procedure itself last for about 30-40seconds, the whole thing takes about 15-20 minutes

Good luck

None of the places I checked out do this. I'll be doing both eyes at the same time and flying home to costa rica the next day.

When I had my procedure done it was with a diamond blade. They made it two visits. These days with laser one is all it takes and if I needed it again I would not hesitate.

I recently discovered that they now have a lasik procedure for farsightedness which I will be looking into very soon.

The wife just had Lasik a month ago and couldn't be happier. Her eyes were -4.5 so night and day difference afterwards. Follow the Docters instructions and rest your eyes. Keep them covered and like Eric mentioned don't strain them. Maybe even have them covered while you sleep if you have the habit of rubbing your eyes.

My vision's about the same only positive instead of negative. Wear glasses to read and such but get around pretty good most of the time w/o them. Street signs are a bit difficult but I can still make out key letters that help me guestimate the names and get me where I need to be.

Prob biggest neg effect of not wearing my glasses is I can't make out people's faces too well at a distance, so sometimes I say hi to people I don't know and susequently sometimes I don't spot people I should greet and hurt feelings. Not ready for lasik yet though, probably should just wear my glasses more and not be such a bastard.

Where did she have it done?

I backed out of getting Lasik about 6 years ago but been thinking about doing it again. I'm sooooo tired of wearing glasses and I can't touch my eye balls so contacts are O-U-T.

Some military branches require you to have perfect vision.

Can they detect that your eyes have been operated on?
