best AVI splitter to use for making clips

peeps are asking for more promo clips on shimmycash.com so i'm making 60sec promo clips in premiere but i've been doing it ALL day. edit, chop, save, compress, very time consuming... is there an easy to use FUNCTIONAL avi splitter program, thats not fucking retarded (ie: stable) that will take large 1gb files... 20-30min clips and output a whole lot of 60 sec clips that i can sort thru on my own for uploading to promo tools? helpful advice appreciated thnx

Dude, convert that 1 gig file to something manageable (250k or something) and let Movie maker auto-chop them puppies. great if you don't care about edits or fades or making them look purty. chop chop chop! LOL

VirtualDub is perfect for that. If you want to job any of that work out let me know. I've done a bunch of it and have it down pat.

I used to do it the same way. Let me give you some advice champ.

1. Buy Sorenson Squeeze.
2. Buy VideoCharge.

Process your full length DV AVI and convert them to HQ WMV. You can batch process 5/10/15+ at a time overnight while you sleep. Then once all are completed, you import them into VideoCharge.

Now import them all into VC. Watermark all of them. Once done, then go back and choose the option to cut clips, without re-rendering. This will cut dat shit up like hotcakes and fast. Now done.

3. Save the full length converted DV AVI/WMV in a special folder for additional renders later. ***Also you can save money on the program(s) if you are a college student and fax in your college I.D..

That is the best way to do batch renders that I have found (thanks Jim Gunn). However, you are free to try other methods if you like shimmy sham. Peace and good luck.

Boilsoft Splitter also works pretty well, although some versions have had issues splitting larger files.

Best advice on here Shimmy. Mine - I wouldn't even call it 'advice' - was something to just get you through the moment, as it were. Barefootsies solution is the best. Chop chop chop!! :D

It does do batch (it's called Job Control.)

When saving, you will notice that there is an check box that says: "Don't run this job now, add it to job control so I can run it in batch mode."

When you do this, instead of saving the file it will, as it says, add the command to Job Control. You can then set up more exports and add them to Job Control so you can run them all in one go later. This is especially useful if you are making clips from a dvd source as you can keep adding them to job control and then encode them all in one go. Job control can be accessed from the File menu or by pressing F4.

Agreed! virtualdub does the splitting automatically!
Otherwise, Alloksoft or Zealotsoft also working great!

i'm using videocharge now, its a 2 pass process... 1 pass to watermark, 1 pass to chop em up. but you know what i can live with that because its all a batch process. i set that mofo up, went to workout and its still running the batch, no need to spoon feed it video files 1 by 1 and thats all i was looking for. thanks everyone for their input, i appreciate the time savings

Glad you found a solution you like. But...by using batch (job control) and the logo filter VirtualDub does all of that in 1 pass. Plus....it's free.
