Domains dropping like flies....

Been checking out some domain drop lists from this year. A sick amount of domains are dropping daily. I found over 200 decent ones, then broke them down to ones I really liked. I registered 20 new domains last month, and another 15 tonight. If you have a fav niche you promote you will find some great domains. I am talking about decent 2 word domains .com

I guess the recession is making many reduce their domain holdings, and perhaps people who are not making money are just leaving the internet biz.

So true, my problem is I keep looking for adult names...I need to start looking for some mainstream ones too. Like many threads on here we see that you can have a domain that sucks...but put $$$ in traffic and still do well.

The computer tech guy who comes to my job once a month, told me I should drop all my domains...and just offer some of these guys like 10k for a hot domain...and just focus on one great website...instead of 500 so so ones.

alot of people are finally realizing that having keyword phrase domains is not as advantageous as it used to be. i myself have dropped hundreds of exact match term domains because they are less of a factor in search scoring than they once were. i've been able to rank terms on unrelated domains, so its less necessary to own the exact match domain, so that's one reason you see more drops. i would suppose one of the other reasons is people just aren't hoarding domains as a result of trimming fat and dumping unnecessary assets in an effort to streamline their businesses in a trying economy.

Ranking good keyword domains seems to still be a lot easier for me.

Three me. In all reality I'd still consider myself sort of an SEO halfwit and if i get my hands on an exact match domain, I can rank it and rank it well with mad newbsense skills.

How do you tell the domain age of a dropped domain? I used a couple tools and they can't determine the age.

If the domain drops, or is in the pending delete status and you pick it up, it loses its age and its new creation date is the date you purchased it or registered it. If it is in a pre-release status, it keeps it's age.

NameJet, Pool, Snapnames, Afternic are all great places to pick up dropping domains, prices vary from $59-$69 or more at each site, that is if other users don't put in bids on the domains, at that time, the domain goes into a 3 day auction and the highest bidder wins the domain name.

Have fun, it is quite addicting ;)

I would be shocked if you sold even 5 of those domains in your list. Yeah better to own mainstream domains and buy one word .com domains because you can sell it whenever you want. 10k can still get you something halfway decent.

the problem is Google, I'd buy a bunch more if google wasn't such a bitch the last while, it is hard to predict how they will treat a domain when it goes through changes

The pddw.com alexa filter can score you names that have traffic, pr,hardlinks that google can't take away from you.
