How often should you try to get a reduction in hosting costs? Is it even possible with the higher end hosts?

i've renegotiated hosting prices with hostings we use for dedicated servers during this recession. as well as other major spendings. i guess it's ok to renegotiate prices one time per year

I don't get whats the point in making a contract with a hosting company. I never did that, if I was unhappy I could change the provider within few days.

You can usually secure better pricing on large hardware requirements.. for a 1-10 servers, I agree keep it month to month.

were talking 15+ servers, large storage and equipment to support it and larger bandwidth commitments 2g+.

Regardless no company will really just say ok and spend the money on equipment with out some security.

If they do. have fun with your desktops and non-enterprise storage.

keep in mind that a contract is for both parties, it will also describe service level agreements and compensation if those levels are not met.
