Parking an aircraft carrier

Went down to see my daughters ship come in, the USS Ronald Reagon, I got a tour and will post them tomorrow, this was taken with my cell phone. The ship was amazing and damn big, walked from one end of the flight deck to the other, really fun couple of days, meet someone along the way

Nimitz class carriers are huge.

Now as for parking one... hmm.. don't think they have bow thruster (dang I miss my boat).. guess it's all by tugs pushing them toward the dock.

Aircraft carriers are not made to dock, they are made to run their engines around the clock and around the globe. I was on a cruiser and a few times we received the radio call, US Naval Fleet calling ship YYY please stay clear X amount of Nautical miles. It never crossed anyone's mind to not comply with those instructions.

The Reagon is going to be having a refit, so my daughter will be in port for a while, she gets out in a little over a year, then it's off to college

to be honest, didn't see them, there were on the other side. The cool thing is that the ship actually backed into it's space

under its own power? i live across from the los angeles port and watch the cargo vessels come and go, love that shit. it's quite an effort to squeeze those mammoths into some of the berths.

They flew off all but two aircraft before they came into port, and one of them is non op
I was more interested in the ship anyways, I'll have some more pics from others and post them as they come in
