if someone gets on his computer and starts posting as his friend "the_king" I'm gonna be sad

rowan 10-20-2009 06:33 PM

As the Australian Federal Police like to say in their t*rr*rist ads, "Be ALERT, but not ALARMED" :D

If it happened to me my only concern would be that she has my number. I don't see much harm in following through a good deed.

kane 10-20-2009 06:39 PM

I'm back and still alive.

Here is how it went down:

I parked my car in the area I planned, walked the block or so to the light rail and hopped on the train. I took it across town and got to the deli we were meeting at about 10 minutes before she did. She pulled up and parked in front of the place, got out and came in. She was alone. We greet each other and make small talk then order sandwiches and drinks. She then tells me that she has been in a dark place for several months and has been really struggling. She says it all came to a head about a week ago when a friend of hers came back into her life and they had been hanging out. This person was a real bad influence on her and she had started drinking again after more than 5 years being sober. This person told her that she had a 'no lose' system that she could use for video poker so that she could win every time. So this friend shows up at the bar my caller works at and talked her into taking money out of the till to play video poker with. She agreed and her friend promised if she lost she would run home and get the money to put back in the till. Well, of course she lost. The friend left to get the money and never came back. When her friend didn't come back she panicked and started getting desperate. She went home and tried to call the other bartender, but instead got me when she dialed the wrong number. After taking my advice everything worked out for her.

So she thanks me and we have a decent conversation. I don't give her much info about myself, but the conversation is pleasant. She does seem a little bit off and admits that she needs to go back to AA and get off the booze. I don't know how old she was, but she was kind of haggard looking and I think she is actually younger than she looks. Booze and cigarettes can take their toll on you. After we finish eating we get up and leave and outside the place we hug then she tells me if I ever want to come by the bar she can get me some cheap or free drinks. I tell her I'm not much into the bar scene. She tells me she thinks I am a cool guy and that she can't get involved with anyone right now, but if I ever want to just hook up and have fun she would be game. I lie to her and tell her I have a girlfriend. She then hugs me again, we wish each other a happy life and go our separate ways. I take the train back across town, do a little shopping for a couple of new books to read, drive home and hear I am.

So I think she is just lonely, sad and looking for some kind of happiness in her life. She seems like one of those people that always surrounds themselves with liars, thieves and mopes. I have no idea if she is ever going to call me again. I think I gave her the idea that I'm not someone she can just call whenever she wants to talk.

So I am alive. All is good and I'm actually pretty happy I went. I guess it was a little bit of an anti-climactic ending.

you couldn't make up some cool story?

baddog 10-20-2009 06:49 PM

No broken glass? :(

TheLegacy 10-20-2009 06:49 PM

Yup, now she knows your car and license plate. Look I can appreciate being a nice guy - but I don't know your GF would have approved, and I am damn sure you would not allow your GF to walk into a restaurant with a strange guy who called her asking for advice. Consider yourself lucky, but there are better ways to be kind to people than being to trusting

No doubt. And he fancies himself a fiction writer. :winkwink:

When we were done she was in her car and driving away before I was down the block. I then got back on the train and rode it across town, shopped in a book store for about an hour and then went to my car. So unless she knows where I parked, drove across town and waited for me to ride the train, shop then go to my car, there is no way she can know my license plate number.

And I don't have a girlfriend. When she offered to hook up with me, I lied and told her I had a GF, but I don't.

LOL no doubt. I was driving home thinking :"that was pretty tame after all the drama it brought up on GFY." I thought maybe I should just make up something cool, but decided against it.

The way I understand it she basically told me we could hook up if we want. But she was pretty rough looking.

You know a woman is rough looking when you would rather jerk off then screw her :)

Agent 488 10-20-2009 06:57 PM

almost for a second thought this was part of some arg or viral campaign. had me going ...

kane 10-20-2009 06:57 PM

If anyone cares the books I bought were Artie Lange's "Too Fat To Fish" and The Royal Family by William T. Vollmann. I guess after talking to her I was in the mood to read about obsession and self destruction.

cherrylula 10-20-2009 06:58 PM

She's been sober for 5 years, but works at a bar, and some random friend from her past got her to drink? She has to be lying, that just doesn't make sense. :1orglaugh

I actually asked her that. when she said he had a drinking problem in the past but has been sober and works at the bar I asked if working in a bar was the best choice for her. She said that she has only been there about 1.5 years and that she was desperate for a job and needed money so she took the job even if it wasn't the best idea.

Agent 488 10-20-2009 07:06 PM

i will stop before i go off on vollman here. like his stuff.

Dude, you should have blown off GFY for a few days and then come back and started a thread with, "I just got back from the hospital....."

I'm very let down. :(

I have only read Whores for Gloria and Atlas and liked them both. This book is huge though so I guess I'm really going to get into the real Vollman with it.

the offer for a hook-up is kinda strange.. thanks for the story

It struck me as odd too. During the whole conversation there was nothing sexual about it. Then as we hug she tells me if I just want to hook up she would be cool with it. It was kind of out of place, but think she is someone who is very lonely and probably wants companionship no matter what form it takes.

Good job Kane, way to not pussy out like the fags in this thread.

Now you just have to wonder whether she's going to call you again the next time she fucks up. As above that would be my only concern.

Doesn't seem that odd to me. She seems lost and confused. She most likely offered up a fuck as an attempt to keep kane in her life as he might be the only glimpse of a good person in it.

baddog 10-20-2009 08:00 PM

Always go with your first inclination. Make something up.

Dear Penthouse: . . . .

The Heron 10-20-2009 08:23 PM

Should have brought a paper bag with you just for that contingency!
