Seems like they will use Yahoo web directory instead of DMOZ.
This would be the next logical step.

No, it's not that logical. Yahoo is a paid directory and as such any listing can really be bought for their listing fee. DMOZ is free and more objective. I only wish Google would use the yahoo directory!

Although they're paid listings, they still have to be relevant sites. I don't think google will drop dmoz though. I mean after all you're probably not getting alot of traffic from your dmoz listing. It's the pagerank that's sweet as honey. The worst that could happen is that the pagerank could be a bit increased on yahoo and reduced on dmoz.

That's because us editors only have to review sites every 2 months to keep our accounts active. I try to check my categories every couple weeks.

Have you used their paid listings lately? It's a joke getting your site listed. So long as its somewhat relevant you'll get listed. And there's nothing stopping you from changing the pages once you get listed. Yahoo is in this business for the money, unlike DMOZ. DMOZ offers more objective listings. Similiarly, Google is trying to offer objective listings and will more than likely stick to DMOZ. I seriously doubt Google would use Yahoo's directory since listings can be bought so easily.

Yahoo uses this rank for the same phrase but replaces top 20 with sites from their own directoy and you think they should start with google #1 in spot #21 but no. All the google top 20 are gone and then comes me

I recently read an article about Google in Wired magazine. The owners have morals and try to avoid listing sites with pop ups and shit in the top listings (although I have seen a lot of pop ups from sites listed in google). The point is they want to list good sites that are relevant to searches and don't jack the surfer around. I'm sure they'll always keep DMOZ because sites are manually reviewed by humans and they have rules that they are supposed to follow, and it just so happens that the owners of Google like these rules. So by taking these listings they are able to see the sites listed at DMOZ as 'good' sites. Of course not everybody is perfect, and DMOZ will have some bad sites now and again.
