Hey Peoples,

My soon to be wife and are going to drive down to SF and stay at the Hotel Monaco. We planned on going to the theater, and drive out to Napa Valley to do some wine tasting.

If you guy's have any suggestions on what else we can do, I would love any tips you may have.

Thanks everyone!

Ruby Sky (night club)

Museum Of Modern Art (SFMOMA)

Mt. Tamalpais at sunset (In Marin)

When you drive from SF to Napa take 101 North through marin towards Sonoma, then cut over on 37 towards Vallejo. It's a beautiful ride, and you avoid all the Oakland/Emeryville back up right after the Bay bridge.

You have to check out the Coppola winery......

There is nothing nicer than that, has all the movie props, like tucker cars, Don Corlene's desk from the Godfather, etc.

You'll really dig it for a nice romantic time and the tastings are priced reasonably

Thanks Cheshire......

Appreciate the tips.... I know that 101 is a beautiful drive.

I'm tryin to figure out if i should take I-5 from Seattle or do the 101. The only reason is the damn Sisques.... We leave at the beggining of January, so Im worried about the snow in the pass.

Do you know of a good vineyard to stay at?

Hit me up if you can

Thanks again Sweetheart

go to Grandeho Komechyo in Cole Valley at Cole St. adn Carl St. for amazing sushi and there is EOS the best wine bar in S.F. on the corner.

If you are rich and have connections try and get into "The French Laundry" in Napa. It is considered to be in the top 3 or 4 restaurants in the US. Doubt you will get in but if you do we will expect a full report.

Go for a hike in the Marin Headlands directly across the Golden Gate Bridge and for that matter walk across the bridge. It is amazing.

Have fun. I am jealous, I used to live there. Want to move back asap, just need to make some bank.

There are tons of B&B's that are pretty good... if you're looking for just a nice place to stay that's affordable. Stay at the Marriott in Napa, then just drive all over the valley to explore the Wineries.

The absolute best things to do in Napa are the following:

- Setup an appointment at Joseph Phelps to do the Wine Tasting Instruction. (They sit you down at a fancy table and really explain every little detail about the wine and how it's paired with various foods. In my opinion it shouldn't be missed.)

- Tour Silver Oak (need an appointment too)

- Go tasting at Duckhorn (no appointment necessary)

Check out some other favorite wineries... you can just drop in on most places.

These are some great restaraunts:

- The French Laundry (French, Most consider it the #1 Restaraunt in the country... Jacket Required.. It takes 2 months to the day to get an appointment and runs about $500 - $750/person depending on the wines you choose. It's a big production, but worth doing a couple times in your life!)

- Tra Vigne (http://www.travigne.cc/) Great Italian food... probably my favorite in the Napa Valley!!

- Brix (http://www.brix.com/) Really good "American food" with excellent wine..

- Terra (http://www.terrarestaurant.com/) American/Japanese food... Really tastey!

- Rutherford Grill (Great Steaks and Roasted Chicken!)

- Mustard Grill is good too

Just a weekly dinner thing with me and the boss. Go over marketing etc.

The best is Gary Dankos, excellent food/wine, but pricey.

You definitely need to visit Alcatraz Island. What a great piece of history.

Also... are your hotel plans set? I have a insider at a 5 star hotel that can get you a great suite for his "cousin" for about $100 per night.

Let me know.

Gary Danko is awesome. I think the best meal I've had in San Francisco is at Masas
http://www.sanfranciscochefs.com/cli...sas/rest_page/

Fleur De Lys recently reopened and is supposed to be very romantic:
http://www.fleurdelyssf.com/splashpage.html

As KC said, The French Laundry is dreamy. In fact, I think he felt like he was dreaming when he looked at the bill ;)

Its nearly impossible to get in but if you are in the area you can call and see if there are cancellations.

Fog City Diner--quite good

Do the tourist walk from the Wharf through North beach into Chinatown. That natural museum of science is incredible. Berkeley is worth half a day for the book stores.

Also rent a car and check out Palo Alto and Santa Cruz if you have the time. There's a restaurant in Palo Alto called La Fondue that is truly an experience. Very, very romantic--kind of a renaissance motif. Shit there's so much to do in the bay area...

Ruth Chris is the best steak place in the city. It is located on the corner of California and Van Ness.

If you are into authentic Japanese food then go to Maki in Japan Center. It is the only true Izakaya atmosphere here.

Cheshire is correct that Gary Danko is yummy. This is probably the best restaurant in San Francisco side of French Laundry which is located outside the city. It is pricey but well worth the money. I'd recommend the Monte Chello, I believe 87' was the year. But I'm not a wine expert.

You must have drinks at the Top of the Mark. This has one of the best views of SF and they have live music all the time.

A fun place albeit not the party scene is the Tonga Room next to the Mark Hopkins. It is a jungle bar where the band floats on a lagoon and it rains and thunders every half hour. Kind of rednecky but fun to see once.
