![]() $50 a movie they want to charge here. That's fricken crazy. I can get a recent release DVD for $15 to $25.
It surely can't be that much difference in manufacturing costs to produce them. They should be at the $20 pricepoint, assholes. ![]() |

No shit mate, crazy stuff. I read an article on news.com.au the other day where the reporter asked a Sony rep pretty much the same thing. He replied that even with a growing user base of blueray players due to the ps3, he still didn't see disc prices coming down to around dvds anytime soon.

Because retard consumers continue to pay for them at those prices. This isn't rocket science.

I remember when DVDs were still new, they were also overpriced... now I usually just wait a couple of years after the movie has been released and pick them up for $10-15.

Let's see the price of some new and soon to be released movies on blu-ray that were just in theaters this year Taken (Blu-ray) (2-Disc) (Extended Cut With Digital Copy) $22.86 Watchmen: Director's Cut (2-Disc Special Edition) (With BD Live + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) (Widescreen) $19.86 Knowing (Blu-ray) (Widescreen) $19.32 Monsters Vs. Aliens (Blu-ray) $22.86 Proposal (2-Disc) (Blu-ray) (With Digital Copy) $29.86 Up (4-Disc) (2-Disc Blu-ray + DisneyFile Digital Copy + Standard DVD) $26.86 I Love You, Man (Blu-ray) $25.86 Obsessed (2-Disc) (With Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) $25.86 Just to name a few. In fact of nearly 1600 blu-rays listed at wal-mart.com 930 are under $20. 1250 are under $25 In fact les than 100 were over $40 a those were either TV series or movie series which one would expect to be more expensive. |

The only ones I've paid more than $30 for are the Disney ones, but they give you a TON of shit and their typical price is $35. Best Buy prices are $25 and less.
I buy them used at FYE. Buy 3 get 1 Free. You can find them cheap online too. Just picked up 8 new ones last week. |

Because people are dumb enough to pay those prices. Why the fuck do DVD's still cost $20 bucks. Has anyone noticed how fucking cheap looking the DVDs look now. They are cutting corners everywhere, the discs are almost all gray with a title you can barely read and they put more and more commercials on every disc. Shit I can make a nicer looking disc using my own burner. No more 2 disc + special features and all the extra stuff well not unless you want to rebuy the movie when they re-release it 3 months after you bought the original DVD for twice the money.

Because the producers want to drive people to free tube and torrent sites. The easiest way to save money in the crisis is downloading instead of paying so much. Here i see prices of 50 euro for a simple blu ray. 99,9% of my visitors will go to a torrent site for that price. And i can't blame them. 50 euro's are more than 120 old dutch guilders.

Who cares? Physical medium for movies will be going down the tubes soon (no pun intended) like music has already started to (dunno about you all but I haven't bought a CD in 2 years). Only a matter of time before everyone will be just buying movies digitally online and keeping their movie collection on a flash drive, memory card etc.

So while from a technology standpoint yes we can make physical media moot, But until the vast majority of the US has fast broadband with no caps( or very high ones ) physical media is here to stay. Because as we all know the US ISPs have no intention of making the changes that NEED to be made unless they are forced to or the government pays for it. So my 10-12 year timeline is being generous. Not to mention some people just want the physical disc. |

They're not expensive if you rent from Blockbuster or Netflix. Why do you need to own a movie to see it?

I think that in a recession more and more people try so save money. When a blu ray disk is 50 euro they are willing to serach for an alternative (torrent). When it cost only a few dollars, more people are willing to buy. You don't watch a porn movie 20 times (but some will) If you play it once or twice, 50 euro is to expensive. And if you don't like he video, you are not willing to buy another one.
