anyone have a iMac 24"

What do you think of it? worth the $$? Pros? Cons? have you had any issues getting software that will run on it without using parallel?

We have a 21 and a 24. Personally I think they're they best desktop for the average computer user.

I don't use Parallels, but rather VMWare Fusion. If you want to run Windows apps and not have to repartition your HDD, install Windows, and dual boot...VMWare (and Parallels) do a good job.

For the most part, all of the important software packages are available on the Mac.

I am having a hard time deciding if I should get the 20 or the 24.... That extra 4 inches doesn't seem like a lot on paper but does it in the real world?

I just posted in an other thread about the difference from 24 to 30. You'll gain quite a bit of space with the 24 over the 21. It might not seem like much, but sit down with both and you will see a big difference.

You will want to go with the 24inch, because Apple decided to ship a really crappy display with the 20" and it has all sorts of fucked up shading and shit. I remember that when I purchased my 24", I set it side by side with my friends 20" and you could totally tell there was a different display, and his was fading out at the bottom. Google about the 20" Imac Alu and you can see for yourself.

You can definitely see a difference when they are up next to one another. It's not at all noticeable (when you have just 1) unless someone points it out

I wish there was an retail outlet within a hundred miles I would go check it out in person. It sounds like I should go for the 24 though.

The reviews are pretty good though it looks like you have to be careful who you buy from, one guy bought his on Amazon before they were a certified reseller and got screwed out of his 1 yr warranty.

Should I get the Apple Care extended warranty? Or is it a waste of money with these machines?

ok one more sale in my retail store today and I will buy it. ;)

I always buy the Apple Care, especially with the iMacs as you can't really get into the guts to replace parts if need be.

Apple dictates their retail pricing, so you won't find them for too much less than full retail from the legit sellers.

Check out MacMall.com

I have a 24" iMac. Love it. Have VMWare Fusion and Vista installed but never used Vista on here. Check crucial.com for RAM upgrades and compare them to the price on Apple's site. Sometimes they are real close price wise but other times you can save some money getting the RAM from Crucial.

Me too on an iMac. Never had to use it but a 3 year warranty is a good thing and helps resale if you want to sell it.
