Not meaning to be a dick btw, but he gave a genuine response and you found it laughable. I GUARANTEE you, that if you opened up your books and showed potential sponsors that you ARE doing it for the good of the entire industry as opposed to making a profit, sponsorships would increase. Probably not to the level they were 4 or 5 years ago, but to a better level than they are today. |
i went to my first show at the internext 05 in vegas i think and there were a lot more webmasters then. you could actually talk to some and generate new ideas for more traffic, etc.. it was well worth it for me as a webmaster back then.
these days its all program owners and affiliate managers wanting to know how many sales i can push. seriously the last couple shows ive gone to i was literally one of a handful of webmasters there. always the same people talking about the same bs. lower the costs for your average webmaster and no doubt you'd get more people showing up. |
I went to internext last year and all of you just wanted to takes pics with me, then laughed about by tats as you walked away. Not very cool. I went to talk business and all I got in return was a bunch of immature overweight webmasters who had nothing better to do that say hateful things.

Sponsors/Companies (most anyway) know that their ROI will suck with all these damn shows but they still go for the branding. AVN sells the napkin space, space on badges, menus, banners on the walls, everywhere you turn around "something" is being sponsored. So there obviously is a lot of value there since these companies are paying big bucks for thos spots. And everwhere you turn around you see AVN, which gets all of this exposure for free. They don't pay themselves for it, wait they actually make profit from the deal and get the free exposure. Why can't they do the show just to give something back to the industry they make a lot of money off of and do the shows for no profit. They still get tons of VAULABLE exposure out of it.... but Chris said they don't do charity work. I bet the companies that buy all that sponsor ads from AVN love to know that you think the value of what they are buying = charity.... greed greed and more greed. |

Will please let me know how you would structure this.... I am interested..... seriously.... |

Easy way to do it. (AVN should send me and everyone else here a portion of your check for all t he time we logging in trying to make AVN more money). You find out the cost to put a show on. I am sure you can reference previous years to see what the hotel cost etc. It cost "xxxx" amount of money. You have a good estimate of how many booths, advertisers, and attendees you will have. Contact the advertisers and booths early to get a deposit from them and lock them in. Divide the your cost of the show by expected revenue. Take your "profit" that you would have made and start reducing prices for attendees and/or booths. To cover your ass charge booths the same as you did previous year but let them know when the accounting is reconciled that there is a pretty good chance you will have a refund for them. Which then if you do some creative marketing you can make them apply it as a deposit against the next year's shows booth cost. AVN does the show for NO PROFIT. Meaning their costs to put the show on is recouped from the revenue from the show. Prices are reduced for attendees ahead of time, and for the booths they will get some money refunded if turn out was better than expected. AVN still gets all of the exposure that goes with having a show for FREE. AVN's name and services are blasted everywhere. AVN gets the same benefit of all of the advertisers at the show get but they get it for free. AVN gets a booth for FREE. etc.... So you can honestly say that you getting FOR FREE everything that you are selling to other companies means that you are doing charity work and you see no point in doing it, then what the fuck kind of message are you sending to the people who buy booths and advertising at the show from you ???? Yes you are a business, but is your business model solely based around running conventions? Or perhaps do you guys make money in other ways from the adult industry. sad... |
I do not think the shows are of interest for regular webmasters/affiliates, the money spent on travel and/or other expenses are not worth it.

If there was 1 big show, or at worst 2 big shows a year, a superbowl of shows with 5x more companies and attendees than there are now... the value would be worth paying for the travel costs. You would have a much much better chance to make deals and get business done that will more than pay for your cost to get there. But as along as AVN's and Xbiz's are looking at the conventions as a revenue source in their portfolio, what I mentioned above will never happen. And over the next couple years all of these shows will implude because attendees and companies will be drained and most will stop going to all of the shows. |
The shows attitudes have changed, affiliates once attended these shows in the masses. I remember Vegas in 1998/99 and New Orleans in 2000 ( IA2000 ). Those were filled shows, and mostly good times!
We need to find a way to get these 'affiliates' & smaller companies to attend again. The days of 50-150k shows for a sponsor are mostly over. Remember the days when HUMMERS & RV'S sat with hot girls on the show floors ? We may attend Vegas, but we won't be buying show space on the floor. Suite parties are a better way to roll nowdays..atleast for us. |
