Would you guys and gals promote a paysite with a twitter link on the tour without any compensation? Do you consider this a traffic leak?

Why would you want it there? The person is already interested and on the tour so why would you want them to sign up to hear about her going to to gym and shit?

of course its a leak. you want them to join the site and spend money. anything that takes away from that is a leak.

It's unanimous. It's a leak. Anything that takes the surfer off site or to a non-credited portion of the site is.

Because... it shows the surfer the site is active, making it appear updates are real, support will answer, someone you could contact, a way to become a fan, a way to follow whats going on with the website, old sites, and new sites.

For the site owner it's a way way to build a relationship/trust so later (or now) the person could be sold whatever you like.... because they trust you.

Instead of linking, just mention it in a small graphic and maybe show a screen shot of recent twitter updates. It gives the impression of ongoing updates and interaction without being an actual leak.

yup exactly! don't have the girl be too friendly to the surfers on the outside or they will never join the site. It's like surfer boards are a great place for girls to get new members but when you are spending a hour a day replying to a single non members 20 pms a day then you are wasting time.

Back on topic, I'm all for telling them in the tour that if they join they will get their twitter, facebook, email and what not just keep that info off the tours

I asked a 2 part question, I am aware that it is a leak but what I really want to know is if webmasters will still promote the site. I've seen alot of new sites with twitter links and I have not heard any backlash as of yet.
I remember when the webmaster referral link on tours was a huge deal but no one has mentioned TWITTER as of yet maybe because it has not become the standard yet.

My knowledge and integrity should not be questioned because I am trying to find out what affiliates agree or disagree with. If you read the OP you will notice that I did not give my opinion on whether or not it's a leak or not.

It's a huge leak.

But add it to the memberares and the exit console/popup. That way surfers that would leave your site, might follow the site on Twitter and return to the site later.

Since a lot of programs track both Cookie and IP, there is a chance the webmaster that initially send the surfer to the site, get the credit for the sale

And if they sign up, there is a bigger chance they stay a member longer, if you keep reminding them of updates through Twitter.

I dont personally use twitter, but businesses should use it, since its a more powerfull tool than email-newsletters could ever become

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have requested the editors remove our twitter link from the blog part of the tour (which just went live today). There's nothing more I hate than a traffic leak.

Again, I want to know if Affiliates will still promote a site with a twitter link on the tour! for no compensation! I stated this above in case you did not read the complete thread.

Webmaster have been sending traffic to tons of sponsors for years when they were not being credited for webmaster referrals only in 2007 did people start to complain and SOME sponsors including ourselves did something about it and made sure credit was given.

So being that twitter is the new thing, are webmasters ready to promote sites with a link or not! It might only hit webmasters a year from now when they start complaining about it.

I am aware that it's a LEAK!!!

Or twitter link could be used to promote more features or make the user aware of special things going on in the members area at that moment that the user HAVE TO SEE.

It can be good or bad, depends on the person making it.

Just like an E-mail collection box on a main page can be good or bad, depends purely on the integrity of the program owner so it all depends on the trust level between the affiliates and the affiliate program owner..

Considering many affiliates hardly trust their sponsors with their affiliate check it may be a bad idea.

It's like asking if rain is good or bad
