Fucking Compaq's!!!
Goddamn Compaq laptop less than 5 months old and I have to send it all the fricking way from Vancouver to Quebec to get it warrantied!!!
Arrrrggh when I asked how long it would take they said 7-10 business days which basically means 3-4 weeks. I asked them if they would supply me with a replacement during the meantime and the prick basically insulted me. He said "well sir you should have thought of purchasing a backup device for these kinds of situations..." Well fuck junior if I knew your laptops were such pieces of shit I would have bought something else! Anyways as soon as I got off the phone with them I walked my ass down the street to Staples and bought another computer. NON-COMPAQ!!! The whole reason I had the laptop instead of the desktop was so I could travel and work on the road. Oh well screw it, just keep in mind for those of you shopping for laptops to avoid Compaq as their products and support are shit! ![]() DH |

Yeah NOBODY ever buy a compaq they are such shit, any brand name laptop is bullshit, I paid $4000 for a 1 ghz laptop early last year and the damn thing runs like a P700 cause of all the bullshit software it installs in the taskbar.
MY compaq P500 I had years ago booted up with 72% computer resources left. I mean 500mhz times 72% = 360mhz SO I bought a fucking 360 mhz machine cause they installed all that useless bullshit software you can't install unless you do a fresh install with a cutdown version of windows which isn't easy to do with Winme or win98se. Well-
I work for a VAR and sell computers to institutions and large companies all the time. There really isn't much difference in the inside of most boxes, laptop or desktop...they are essentially made with similiar components. I usually tell most people that if you buy a laptop, they are great, but because of the compactness of the components, you will have problems. With the bigger processors, comes much more heat and dispersal of that heat is nearly inpossible in a laptop. I sell Dell, Compaq, and HP laptops to clients and have about the same breakdown rate. None really have great service, there is no money in the service end for the VARS they depend on, so it is a very low priority for us. Plus Dell wants each VAR to pay $2500 to have the honor of making twenty bucks on each repair...fuck that. Now servers is a different story, compaq makes the best servers in the business. They also control 75% of the LAN servers out there. That is why HP wanted them so bad. They also developed the enginerring for most of the RAID tech, not the technology itself, but the implementation...also their hot plug drives are awesome. The poweredge has a long way to go....piece of junk. Desktop with a few extra drives and a array controller. Good luck on your laptop, I have given up on them...everytime you drop one or overheat one...you got problems. I got plenty of problems already.

Compaq has probably the WORST name in the UK. Seriously, even the servers are regarded as proprietry junk that will fail when you really need them.
For lappies, go Dell, VPR Matrix or Toshiba.

Sammy-
We don't you go to a computer parts shop and just by an OEM version of win98? It won't have anything but the OS on it and will run alot better....better yet find someone with an OEM version of win98 and use laplink to move a copy of his OS to yours.
