Well-

I work for a VAR and sell computers to institutions and large companies all the time. There really isn't much difference in the inside of most boxes, laptop or desktop...they are essentially made with similiar components.

I usually tell most people that if you buy a laptop, they are great, but because of the compactness of the components, you will have problems. With the bigger processors, comes much more heat and dispersal of that heat is nearly inpossible in a laptop.

I sell Dell, Compaq, and HP laptops to clients and have about the same breakdown rate. None really have great service, there is no money in the service end for the VARS they depend on, so it is a very low priority for us. Plus Dell wants each VAR to pay $2500 to have the honor of making twenty bucks on each repair...fuck that.

Now servers is a different story, compaq makes the best servers in the business. They also control 75% of the LAN servers out there. That is why HP wanted them so bad. They also developed the enginerring for most of the RAID tech, not the technology itself, but the implementation...also their hot plug drives are awesome. The poweredge has a long way to go....piece of junk. Desktop with a few extra drives and a array controller.

Good luck on your laptop, I have given up on them...everytime you drop one or overheat one...you got problems. I got plenty of problems already.
