Your host is lying....read the fineprint of your contract.....the
guarantee means fuck all......it's all based on best effort

Some really good hosts credit you if the do'n't meet the SLA
what theydo is at the end of the year the calculate total down
time.....let's say the total is 1 day.....then they credit you
for 1 day according the monthly fee you pay....for example
$300 dollars per month....you will get credited $30

Our company specializes in developing HA systems and business continuity plans for business critical systems that rely on the Solaris platform. I often laugh at the numbers that hosting companies insert into their marketing fluff. Let's put things in perspective:

Availability Requirement Yearly Monthly
95% 438h 36h
99% 87.6h 7.2h
99.9% 8.76h 43m
99.99% 52.56m 4.3m
99.999% 5.256m 25.92m

As you can see 99% uptime leaves a large margin for error.

But still for most of the providers who are being used this margin
proofs not to be enough.......go figure

funkmaster 11-28-2002 07:43 AM

.. as a matter of the fact 99% uptime still means ~15min downtime every day ...

Fact of the matter is, LWI likes to talk shit about everyone else, and when you step on so many toes, people step on yours back. so when a post goes up, one of the regulars reads about it, and it inevitably gets back to the "fair-weather" posters, who have been burned so badly already that they feel obligated to reply.

You wanna know why LWI gets flamed when they have downtime? Why dont you take a look at their standard issue sales pitch they make.

Here is your like-whoa knight in shining armor:

THAT is what you call dirty pool.:321GFY

I just got a sales pitch similar to that the day before they went down. Salesman asked me where I was hosted and came back with "Didn't they just go down?" . I asked if Like Whoa ever went down. He said yes, but they keep their customers informed when they do.

Has anyone heard from Like Whoa concerning their downtime? I know the salesman has not been on ICQ during this entire incident.

Likewhoa is down, down, down

The page cannot be displayed

Icy 11-28-2002 10:09 AM

After some hours up, it's up & down again, like past days, same problem, 10 minutes loading fine, 10 loading slow, 30 down, and again and again.

DarkJedi 11-28-2002 10:15 AM

gotys 11-28-2002 10:27 AM

I wonder if they are aware of the problem or they are munching on a turkey

gotys 11-28-2002 10:50 AM

Did anyone phone them? I don't have the number, I'd like to know if they are working on it, or are just ignoring it eating a fucking turkey.

Anyone has a number?

DarkJedi 11-28-2002 10:56 AM

THEY ARE ALL DEAD DRUNK !!

Brown Bear 11-28-2002 11:01 AM

Likewhoa is down, down, down

salsbury 11-28-2002 11:03 AM

it looks like their name servers are unreachable, as well. some errors you see may be "connection timed out" and others would be actual dns failures. hopefully most of you are seeing the former - the latter is more ugly for downtime (e-mail relies on DNS. luckily most mail servers accept it as a soft error, some don't tho.)

Bobo 11-28-2002 11:04 AM

Down:( Why

I can't log into my mrtg stats. Says invalid login. Want to check out how really fucked it is.

TheFLY 11-28-2002 11:22 AM

If your top LikeWhoa trades are down, redirect the traffic to me ;)

Socalsweets.com

TheFLY 11-28-2002 11:23 AM

I'd call LikeWhoa but I feel bad -- it's Thanksgiving :(

This is really unfortunate.

Turboface 11-28-2002 11:25 AM

Now I know where they got their name.

:(

TheFLY 11-28-2002 11:26 AM

I set some wheels in motion... So hold tight this may get taken care of soon...

Darren 11-28-2002 11:26 AM

i just moved to fucking dedicated hosted with them told i would be on verio and now this.

ronbotx 11-28-2002 11:29 AM

It has been up and down last couple of days so it is not an isolated incident.

I do not host there but I do have some galleries with sponsor links to "alliquid" and those sights appear to down quite a lot the last couple of days. The sites have a nice look and design but I'm underwhelmed with the the access speed, conversions, and now the reliability factor.

Too bad...

LW is the bomb. I just don't understand what's up with the downtimes?

Thought a lesson was learned last time. Have backup providers!:(

abshard 11-28-2002 11:39 AM

This is really unfortunate.

its unfortunate for the paying customers who's sites are down.

imJason 11-28-2002 12:13 PM

well well well,

first off, I dont want to shit on like whoa, causes they have been good to me, pricing and tech support wise,

in fact the tech support has been the best I have ever gotten,

but,

I got downtime first in sept, for a day, and I got the promises, may of you are talking about,

well, I let that slide, and I was happy to receive a credit on my account for that day or 2 of slowness,

but,

the last 2 to 3 days have been getting progressivly worse,
the noc icq is now off line and the phone not getting answered,

and I have yet to hear from nick on this,

so im considering my options, and I guess we shall see,

Id really like a statement from like whoa on here,

and Id really like to know whats going on,

PS

in regard to this

http://www.traffictrader.net/likewhoa.txt
posted by Henry and friends,

its nice to see my site as part of the discussion,

for the record, my site has always been fast with like whoa,

even since the switch from verio,

until now,

anyways, that it, sucks to be down,

5 years online, and Ive been down with,
ultraspeed.com
servint.com
maxim.net
flashhost.com

those are host to AVOID at all costs,

and well like whoa, so far so good, but this repeated dowtime is starting to get to me,

but like I said I dont want to bash them, only vent a bit,

later
