How bout some peeps who don't get "special deals" pop in here and start posting their experiences?
Boneprone, we know you aren't unbiased. =) Equinox and Pipecrew both get free hosting from them, in return for sig buttons... Would be nice not to have the regular cheering squad commenting |

My host will have issues 5 min here 10 min here I can deal with that shit happens, but hours, no way would I put up with that. Here is the problem if a host goes down for more then 15 min at a time they do not have a failover system in place, even if they lose a router they should have a failover in place, 5 maybe 10 maybe 15 min max to be back up period. Maybe they do have a failover in place then why all the problems? You guys are down for hours there is no excuse for that. What happens when you are down for 2 hours and the next time and it does not come back up? I have seen many threads on this board about Likewhoa you guys need to find out the truth and make sure to cover your own ass. Regards, Kevin |
things have been great with like whoa. didn't notice the sept 11th downtime. my daily stats didnt show anything that would cause me to notice.
the last couple days, there's been an hour each day where traffic is off. traceroutes don't look as healthy the last couple days like they did a month ago, but its still solid. sites are coming up quick, thats what i care about. looking at this thread you'd think the sky was falling. |

When my sites are down the sky is falling to me. When you are down you are closed out of business till you are back up again! Good luck I hope it all works out for you guys! Regards, Kevin |
Look guys, what I'm trying to say here it's:
1.) Im paying for Tier-1 connectivity and I'm getting Tier-2 at the price of a Tier-1. Quite frankly, I don't want to be on Yipes - neither Williams Co. or Cogent Co.. Expl : I've been told by my account rep at LWI that I will only get Verio, AT&T, Qwest and Level3 bandwidth. I based my decision on these facts. When I joined LWI, I've been told that my servers will never be on Cogent or such crap but only on quality Tier-1 providers. - Written on my contract too! 2.) Their network isn't stable, there is always some route problems since Sept. 11 2002. 3.) I don't like the idea of doing business with them when I hear that they aren't paying their bills! This doesn't make me comfortable to host with a company who put all THEIR CLIENTS BUSINESS AT RISK. And it didn't happen only one time, but 2 mother fuckin times. 3.) They've been promising their client that Yipes and Cogent were only temporary - and they'll find other Tier-1 provider very very soon. - It's been 75 days now that we run on cheap ass connections. 4.) I am paying for BGP4 and "redundant connectivity on multiple providers". The BGP4 doesn't work - and the multiple connections my ass! Last september (8th and 11th) when our sites were running slow as shit, they didn't have sufficent redundancy, and we were able to access our sites only 30% of the time. But I WAS PAYING FOR THIS! In conclusion, im not saying that downtime isn't acceptable. Every host goes down once in a while... But LWI behavior doesn't show me that this company can give me that security and trust that I'm looking for. |
You ever notice how these mysterious snipers with a low post count and no homepage link come out during these hosting threads?
This is called dirty pool guys. Cut it out. |
I have a small project on the side hosted with likewhoa vhosting.
We get about 5 hours or so of downtime every week with LikeWhoa. it wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt spread out into 30-60 minute bits over the entire 7 day period. :Graucho Other than downtime I have no problem with likewhoa. And their website is pretty cool. Go listen to the funky music.. http://www.likewhoa.com makes me feel more relaxed about the fact that i'm losing money every time. At least i'm filling the wallets of funky dudes. :winkwink: |
Apparently Likewhoa is still down in some places. I can access my sites and ones hosted at likewhoa but some people cannot.
Even the sextracker stats show a large decrease for sites like Pichunter. So many people are still unable to access them:( |
So much for multihome
Fuckin Yipes bandwith is cheap and shitload of downtime What people do to save a buck or 2 :) |

Do you have number on your site? Or when your customers cant get to your site do they cancel, do you lose money? All I am saying is find out what is wrong and fix the problem Quote:
I don't get it? Regards, Kevin |
Kevin, is a link to your main site there? Yes. Stop being so sensitive.
What I'm talking about is a GFY problem that's been going on for too long. The hosting guys play dirty on this board. Whenever 1 or 2 people has a imaginary or legit problem with any host 3 or 4 mysterious posters that never post anything on the main board pop up and add excessive salt on the wound. |

I have seen the flame wars between hosts on this board I do understand were you are coming from. And what I see is a legit issue, webmaster with big problems, guys good luck hope it all works out ok for you. Regards, Kevin |

Oh geez, you must be related to Desirae..... Why are so many paysite owners high on themselves when they only get 20 signups a day? half of those coming from affiliates... I will never know! |

I have other things to do besides talk shit on the boards all day long. I read daily, but I only post when something gets me excited. I dont live by my computer, so if I have free time I dont sit around reading forums. Fact of the matter is, LWI likes to talk shit about everyone else, and when you step on so many toes, people step on yours back. so when a post goes up, one of the regulars reads about it, and it inevitably gets back to the "fair-weather" posters, who have been burned so badly already that they feel obligated to reply. You wanna know why LWI gets flamed when they have downtime? Why dont you take a look at their standard issue sales pitch they make. Here is your like-whoa knight in shining armor: http://www.traffictrader.net/likewhoa.txt THAT is what you call dirty pool.:321GFY |
bottom line TUPAC IS ALIVE!

Happy Turkey day guys, Im off to bed,

bobo, you are 100% correct. |
funkmaster:
Refresh my memory... didn't you host with likewhoa before? I remember hearing a rumour somewhere that you were good friends with the owner of like whoa. |

General rule of thumb:
If a hosting company pushes their traffic through Cogent, Yipes, or Epik (are they still around?) then don?t expect the fucking world from them. They are so fucking cheap to buy REAL bandwidth and spend a little they more then likely don?t have a redundant network nor anything else they promise (yes there are exceptions to this but not many). Bandwidth from any Tier 1 provider is cheap these days. The ?big boys? like Like Whoa should have some QUALITY bandwidth. I saw their prices and for Yipes bandwidth it sure looks like they are overcharging a ton of people. There support can't be that fucking good if the network has been done this time. Let me guess - It's not there fault! Someone posted that they got kicked out of Level3 ? this was more then likely because they did not pay their hosting bill. L3 will put up with just about anything. Someone else posted that they did not pay Verio because they where working a deal ? That right there would make me switch hosting companies and never look back. Seems like LWI has a track record of not paying their upstream providers if it is true. Yes hosting companies will go down here and there for a few minutes (there are ones who don?t) but these outages for HOURS long that LWI and ColoGroup have been having are UNACCEPTABLE for ANY web site. Hell if I had my family web site down for hours I would be pissed let alone a commercial porn site. Spend the extra couple of bucks and go with a hosting company that sends out through real tier 1 providers (UUNet, ATT, Sprint (iffy), Level3, Qwest, Cable & Worthless). |

That is why I got out of virtual hosting. It is honestly not a good business for hosting companies or webmasters. Our network was fine and our dedicated customers have had great service, but the virtual hosting was a non stop problem. If you have a dedicated server, you control your server and nobody can effect that but your host. When you are on virtual, some people take up a lot of CPU time, some people take a lot of tech time, and you never know when the server is going to spike from a TGP listing. Honestly, it sucks for everyone involved, and look forward to the day, everyone is on some sort of dedicated. As prices drop on computer systems, so will the prices for servers with hosting company. Just thought I'd speak my mind!:thumbsup |
