I think what you are describing are niche markets. For example; The majority of adult consumers want hot models in the style of Jenna Jameson, Jesse Jane, etc. Smaller segments will want something else -- like a naked 75 yo women, or a crack whore sucking cock, bondage, pissing, etc. Playboy is a mainstream publication -- and should, by definition, cater the the wants of the larger mainstream audience.
