2 years in the Army - that's the worse "job" I've ever had
|
Cove Shoe Factory -
Piece rate, with minimum wage guaranteed ($3.35 per hour), as soon as you reached $4.50 per hour on what you could do, they did a time study, and reset the rate so you made less, or changed your job to something you could not do. Miss one day of work without a doctors note and you are fired, you get the job by being in the lobby holding an aplication when someone misses a day of work. I don't imagine it has changed much, so it is good to know that the US has and supports it's own sweat shops (biggest customer is the government making boots for the military) |

worked 4 weekends at mcdonads and had a full-time job during the week but need the extra cash as full-time job did not pay until end of month.
|
Worst job I had was when I was 8, worked with my father, at the time he owned his own business fixing Silos and Harvesters for farmers. My job... hand him tools and play with the farm kids to keep them out of his hair... Got paid $5/day doing that for a summer, made a whole $105, I thought I was rich!
Such hard days back then. |
My first "real" job ever was working in an explosive test chamber for a navy research lab. 90% of it was cool as shit, and the pay was great for a high school student, but then a couple times a week I had to go clean the bombproof chamber - all surfaces covered with charred destroyed shit and black soot and who knows what toxic mess.

The guy I worked for was also the county coroner but it was a small county so I am sure we did not see near as much as you....but it is surprising what humans can do to each other thats for sure. --T |

Cleaning a movie theatre could get pretty gross at times. Especially when we had kid films. During Toy Story we had at least one kid piss down the aisles a day. I will always remember the parent that we heard tell her kid to take his pants down and pee right there in the row but to aim for the drain.
The one I hated the most was over the phone magazine renewals..just felt really dirty and not least because of the office we did it from which was a skanky side door entrance office on a crap street in London. |
Telemarketing, I had to call people and read a script and got paid only $6.50 an hr plus "bonuses". It's degrading to have to call people and get hung up on and cussed out for little money. Probably more degrading than doing double anal or bukkake.
|
Cleaning houses. I didn't care about the cleaning part but the owner was a complete douche bag and most of the people we cleaned for were royal pains in the asses.

When I was 18 I worked for a tree removal service. All I did was split logs all day with an axe and throw them into the back of the truck. Worst job ever.

In university I had all of these short breaks (a week, a month, etc). Who the fuck will give you a job for a week? Nobody. You put in your application and you'll get a call back maybe a week later even for Starbucks or Gap or wherever.... The only people who ever hired me for such short periods of time were telemarketing agencies. They hear you on the phone, the next day you start work if you sound decent enough. Wow....everyone who had worked there had been an ex convict whose parole officer had gotten them the job. Many had tattoos on their heads and were very scary looking criminals. Many of them had done hard time for things like armed robbery, car jackings, robberies, etc. My boss had been a former gang banger and almost his entire body was tattooed with gang tattoos. My other boss was a former telephone sex operator. People did drugs in the bathroom.... And I got asked out all the time and got broguht flowers because I was that nice looking middle class kid from the suburbs just there for some quick cash. Most people there were pretty nice all things considered, but needless to say I kept my distance, worked the week or month or whatever and got the fuck out. :pimp |

Telemarketing was awful. I did it for years as a student... |
Oh gawwwwd... I'm the king of shitty jobs when I was younger...
From age 16 to 23 in no particular order... Mcdonalds, furniture mover, headshop clerk (in a SHITTTTTY neighborhood), phone sex customer service rep, dishwasher, fast food chicken delivery guy (in one of the worst areas of Minneapolis)... the list goes on... And all the above for fantastic pay! Well that which didn't kill me... Gotta say that in the final analysis it WAS all character building... |
I worked for an environmental research company. I would collect samples from sewage treatment plants, fast food joints, government research facilities, Sausage factories and even a place that used mercury and hexavalent chromium to make various things such as the paint for the reflective stripes on the roads and the final kicker were the samples taken from the sewer of the free clinic in South Dallas in the pretreated form with human blood and high probability of the HIV.

Having shitty jobs builds character.

HEH... its sounds A LOT more glamourous than it was. TRUST ME ON THAT.
It was the early 90s and I was doing temp work in the Valley in LA. I was the guy that would get the initial call so that I could verify credit card info. before patching the caller thru to one of the girls. It was ridiculous how many callers I got trying to pass of fake CC info. I also fielded calls from angry spouses questioning the bill in the mail in the plain envelope wondering what the charges were for. And then when I was bored I'd listen in to a few calls LOL. This only lasted a few weeks. The manager was a complete prick. I could have made money being a phone sex talker for gay callers but I passed. |

I've had many shitty jobs but I'll just talk about one.
I used to work at Burger King in Ohio on the whopper boards....It was a cool job but I gained 15 pounds working there because I was running my own burgers through the grill.. This was when MC Hammer was on top along with his girl group, "Oaktown 357"....Well they had a concert in my city and all of these niggas showed up at Burger King wanting some food....We worked like Maniacs to get the food to Hammer, 357, and the hundred other niggas whose only job was to work for Hammer..... Afterwards, I had to clean up the dining area after they left.....Those ungrateful niggas would order 2-3 cheeseburgers, take ONE BITE out of the burger, and leave the rest on the table for me to clean up...They wouldn't even bother walking it to the numerous trash cans....They could do it because Hammer was paying for everything....I said to myself, "Look at these ungrateful niggas wasting all of this food"..... Later on, we all know Hammer went broke because he spent all his money employing all of the other bums from his neighborhood. |

When I was back in the States in November we had a reunion of people that worked in the cinema when I was there as a teen and the first thing we all brought up was a repeat customer that we had nicknamed 'diarrhoea man'. That doesn't even include the fact that we had to throw John Popper (blues traveller..he lived in the area) out for getting a blowjob in the cinema and not really hiding it very well. |
2 bad ones here. 1st was working on a tug boat on the Mississippi river. 2nd was moving old mobile homes.

I dug ditches too, and did insulation work. I remember those days... shudder. |
In 1993 I was making $5/hour to dress up as the Easter Bunny and get my picture taken in the mall with little kids.
That suit was HOT and it smelled like the ballsweat of the guy who had done the job the year before. But I was 18, and gas was 93 cents a gallon at Arco. |
I'd have to say being a temp at a Macy's in the women's bathing suit department. I spent hours every day that summer putting away "tried on" womens bathing suits from the dressing rooms...all i can say is:
Does anyone believe in HYGIENE anymore? :Oh crap |

Senior right now...shoulda done it when i was supposed to, lol. Also paying for it like Ms. Sarah, lol. |
Working at a fishing dock while in highschool. I was in charge of the loading the dog fish (sand sharks) from the boats that came in at all hours of the night. It was so smelly I had to sell my car because of the smell. And I would get calls at 12:30am to come down and load up the trucks. Good money for a HS kid......SHITTY JOB!!!!!!!!!
