something I hate about Google search (searching for two terms)

I think it used to be that when you searched google for

word1 word 2

it used to give you results of sites that contain both of these exact words in the exact form and spelling.
Right now, it's not really the case. Using AND between words doesn't seem to do the job either.

Also, sometimes I search for word1 word 2 and then google either assumes I mistyped one of these words and gives me automatically results for what they think is the correct spelling... or they include just a part of the search, like you'd search for "streetfights" and they'd also include sites containing just 'fights' (random example, not sure if accurate).

anyway, there are more important things to bitch about I know, but sometimes I really hate this..

or maybe I am missing something and there's a way to search google for two (or more) words and get results that feature sites containing always BOTH words in the exact form and spelling that I am looking for?

what I hate as well, often I enter a page and the searched term is not there, it says it's been only found in links to that page or sth like that (in google cache)

Also because of personal search and Google history being thrown into the mix, you really can't accurately SEO for terms anymore anyways.

Google does some other shifty things. Can't find the thread but I think it was in reference to google splitting a single word query into two words. You need to do something silly like search for:

word1word2 -"word1 word2"

In the past searching for word1word2 would give you the desired results. (Remember word1word2 is a SINGLE query, but G has detected two sequential dictionary words so it splits them. G obviously knows better than I regarding what I'm searching for.)

Looking again at the OP, streetfights is a good example of the problem I posted above. The blurbs for the first 10 results all contain "street fights", not a single one contains "streetfights"!!!

Phase 1 is complete... Google are already making subtle changes to your searches... give it a few years and they'll have moulded our minds into believing everything they tell us.

good catch, pisses me off
not really see the reasoning behind it either

hmm I just checked Yahoo, this is how they do it:

We have included street fights results - Show only streetfights

at least that's slightly better/more user friendly

Yea, pisses me off too. Honestly, I'm not sure Google's the best anymore...everyone's just been accepting it the past 5+ years but maybe they really aren't anymore. They're obviously being overzealous about what people want in their results now.

I just did a search for "muslin" (a type of fabric)

I was half expecting Google to show results for "muslim"

I've found ways around the fuckery, but I wish they would go back to just searching for what I actually searched for and not what they guess I might be searching for.

^ I wasn't that far off, after a couple of pages some of the results blurbs do contain the (misspelt) word "muslim." Google even highlights it for me.

this is very recent (last 3-4 weeks afaik) - I noticed the same thing.... it used to be that both word1 and word2 had to be present somewhere on that page for the page to show. Now pages are showing up at the top for only word1 and have no word2 at all in them.

When I've noticed this, it's really frikken annoying - if I wanted pages not containing word2, I would have omitted word2 from the query

My guess is they're going for the masses. And the majority of the people aren't advanced internet users and need Google's help with searches.

If you only use "" when u search a whole phrase, and not use it with single or two words .. its your mistake, not google's.

If you type something, google will show the result that 95% of people are looking for .. and that would be usually teen sex or street fights .. for the rest of 5%, they should know what they are doing.. i.e. using appropriate search operators.
