I used to stay on the front page by posting short versions of clips but lately that doesnt doesnt seem to be showing up, the clip goes into my store just fine but it doesnt register as a recent update even though its been off the site for 45 days did something change over there?

Are you saying you're reposting older clips as newer ones after 45 days? If so (and I could be wrong) there were some changes made to prevent people from doing that a while ago. I remember seeing a post by Neil stating that doing that was frowned upon and if caught, he'd make sure your clips aren't ever put on the front page. It was sometime late last year, if I recall.

If you're posting new clips and they're not registering, then it has to be 1 of 3 possible things. 1) There's a glitch in their system. It's happened before. New stores won't show up or new clips don't show up. 2) Your account is being monitored and they may not like your practices. 3) It's being shown but moved off the front page quickly due to the amount of updates. Try setting it to display at different times of the day/night to see if you get any or more face time of the front page.

I don't claim to be a c4s pro, but those are the things that I've found out in my dealings with them. Hope you get your issue resolved.

I think the easy money on c4s is gone but there's still money to be made. If you've got a hot fetish or niche, you're chances of making money there is better. I have a few stores of general hardcore and normal niches and I won't be retiring anytime soon. But, it's better than a poke in the eye with a stick... not to mention free, so WTF, right?

Yes. Changes happened some months back.

You still show up. Just later. Sometimes an hour. Sometimes more.

well thats Kind of what i am doing...I was told its ok to do if you leave them off the site for more than 30 days then re-add them. I know it worked fine at least in December....

is there anyplace on c4s where they actually post the rules?

No you do not show up AT ALL.

A clip that was in the system before ( and supposed you made in in-active...them re-activated it later) Does NOT bump your store to the front at all...been there, done that

In the example you are giving...

1. Post original clip in December.
2. Deactivate it in Jan.
3. Reactivate it in Feb.

You are correct.

That does not pop on the main page any longer. Neil put a stop to that last year. Then they added in the new category selection on main page. So front page pop was not as important as before. Your category pop became the driving force. Well, that and actually knowing, or driving, your own stores traffic.

This is why a lot of people are feeling the pain on C4S. The 'pop' was taken away, or diminished to some extent, and those not driving traffic to their store are feeling the pain more so, I have found, then those who did not rely on the pop.

They also put a stop to the Upload simonsyinister.avi. Pop on main page. Delete it from store. Reupload simonsyinister.avi. Pop on main page. Delete. Repeat.

If it is the same file name and MB then it can not be re uploaded to your studio. well it can but it will not show as a update on the front page. and I don't think you could put it up on another studio either once it has be uploaded on the initial studio.

This is to prevent studios from updating with existing clips all the time. Which a lot of people did and customers complained. and so did other studio owners. And yes if you are caught doing this all the time you will be closed.

If you want to update with the same clip then run off in a different format. IPOD, MOV, or Lo Rez. That will show up as an recent update. However I do not recommend doing this a lot because your page becomes cluttered with a bunch of useless formats of the same clip that no one really needs. Generally if you have more then 2 different formats of the same clip on your front pages then customers get frustrated and move on.

Also make sure you write in the text of the different formated clip that it is the same clip just in that particular format.

As i study this situation the logical single best thing c4s could do for all involved is to double the number of recently updated stores displayed.

that means people dont have to update as often to saty on the front page making the front page real estate more available.

Im not so sure you guys realize how the site is used if my store isnt on that front page my revenues drop by more than 75% plain and simple. people dont use the categories pulldown it doesnt seem, my suggestion would be to list the categories down the side or something.

I know if I pushed traffic to c4s my sales would improve but thats a losing proposition for me, Id rather sell the customer directly than send him away to another site.

I know for a fact from our conversations that Neil has been fighting that 'pop' issue for years trying to find the best solution while battling the cheats. I do not think there is any perfect solution.

C4S was built for the independents and fetish folk. A simple solution for those who did not have pay sites, and wanted to sell their wares. It has become much more. People who want to have the pay site cake, and eat it too are not going to win.

This has come up plenty of times in my tutorial thread. Pay site people want to only promote their sites, but want all the benefits of clips4sale and Neil buying and driving traffic, yet complain when he eliminates off site links.

You simply are not going to get the both. Neil has done a lot to get to where he is, and traffic, Howard Stern, etc. Why would he want to dump a bunch of traffic to his own clips4sale, then have it leaked everywhere else.

I am not bashing you. I am not bashing Neil. Simply pointing out both sides of the issue as I have seen in various threads, and from one on one conversations.

Oh I completely understand, i didnt complain about the the banners going away I dont really use it to drive traffic to the paysite I use it to monetize content I have already monetized on my end. I understand he doesnt want traffic leaks and Im not trying to leak it...Im trying to sell clips to his traffic...what he buys the traffic for to begin with. Im not using clips i dont own the rights to (so many do) Im not charging less than is allowed by cheating his system on the length (even one of his top 5 stores does that all the time) I own hdclips4sale and a few other variations that I forward to clips4sale until we do something to develop them (neil and I have discussed this) hell I will even be in his booth with two of my girls at miami exotica. Like I said Im not gonna call neil and bitch about this stuff he hears it daily, but he has people here that can read what we are both saying and if any of it helps them god bless em...if not Im not going to rail on it.

My main and biggest issue with clips4sale is the forced pricing structures.
I also would send a crap load more traffic and not expect as much internal traffic from his site if he dropped his rates by 10-15% and added that same percentage to a lifetime affiliate program. Yes I would be happy with 10-15% from there and send much more.

I always here this argument.

One of the other clip stores offers up to 70%. Little do they mention that this is some combination of their 40-50% payout, then some (15-25%) percentage for sending your own traffic with your referral link, etc..

ASSuming that they buy from your store, and not some other.

Neil has been 60% payout regardless, no tricks or other marketing ploys. This was before the upstart in all the competition. Frankly, I'll take the 60% and no affiliate program. I will drive my own traffic, and keep the c4s pop, and Howard Stern as gravy.

The other clips stores, other than clips4sale, are not as popular because of their lower payouts, their lack of good traffic and some have had other issues. I have my own opinions, but I will say that this generalization has come from some of my conversations with a lot of clip store owners over the years. Not a simple one sided opinion.

I have clips stores on all the sites except clip clinic. I tried them when they came out end of last year, and their interface was simply too complicated. I do not like web or browser based uploaders. Period! FTP was made for a reason. However, that was not the only draw back.

As for C4S, DVD sales should not be gouged at the same 40% take as a clip. Clip is a bandwidth cost. DVD is not. You are doing little more than the processing, and it should be treated as such. I do not mind a 10-12%. Maybe even a good 15% take to processor, But 40%!?!?


Each clip store has it's quirks. Not one of them is perfect by any means. Clips4Sale just happens to be the closest.

Dude, I was with you all the way on your post until the above part ... what are you talking about 40%??? It's only 25% at C4S for DVD sales, correct? Did I miss something?

And as an add to the conversation, I wish the other "clip sites" would add the DVD shops to their sites also. I try out every one of them and C4S is the only one to let you sell DVD

I stopped selling DVD at C4S some time ago. So I can't say on that part anymore. But if memory serves, at the time, processing for DVD was same as for clips. I could be wrong, and that could have changed in the past couple of years.

If you are still active, and selling, and it's 25%. Awesome. Still too high, but much better.

Tangibles vs intangibles is a tricky thing if you do not have your own merchant account.

It will not work no matter how long you wait to add the same file...the same size/length file will not become NEW to the store itself...I have to re-encode older clips again ( trimming a nano sec. off the front end ) to make it a BRAND NEW CLIP in the system

I totally agree. There used to be some sort of rules and regulations when you signed up that mentioned certain issues but nothing you can reference now. I even watched the tutorial on uploading clips and nothing there either. For any new rules or changes they usually just send out an admin notice but I don’t think that is enough. This is something I will definitely bring to their attention. It would be very helpful for all.

There a lot of issues I would like to address in this thread but I am in Hawaii for our anniversary till Weds. So I will try to get to them as soon as I can.

Here’s just a few things:

1. There is a new c4s site in the works that will have an affiliate type program. Bunch of things have to be worked out but it will be the first of it’s kind.

2. The new admin will not be implemented completely until all the bugs have been worked out. So old admin will still work despite what the notices say.

If anyone has any comments or problems with the new admin please let me know. Tony had mention a few things to me a while ago about the traffic stats and that should be fixed soon. But if there is anything you have trouble with or things that we could improve on then fire away!

Yes it's easy money. Amazing that in a time when everyone is supposed to want it for free others will pay $4 for a 2 minutes clip. But they don't buy the full scenes at the same rate. All you need is content that's a bit unique, does not have to be exclusive.

I've recently opened my store and the technique that I'm using is to upload the OLD clips to the store and drive traffic to it from the main site, labelling them as "classic" videos...It seems to be working.

I prefer old admin. Keep that as an option.

I like to just get in there, put in the info, and fire off my clips. I can be done in 5 minutes. I do not need all those bells and whistles of the new one, nor do I use those features.
