Dual Monitors help increase productivity

I've always had a dual 22" wide lcd setup on my testing/movie server, but I finally got around to setting up dual 20" wide lcds on my main work computer... Productivity has increase by atleast 50%. being able to have 4 app windows open side by side for comparing and coding is amazing.

i'll never go back to 1 monitor only.

I saw the same thing when I went from 20 inch to 24 inch. Its great not needing to flip back and forth between Windows.

Agreed, it does increase productivity. When I write, I have the FHG on one screen, and the editor on the next. Makes everything much more efficient

get ultramon. If you think you can't live without dual monitors, wait until you use your duals with that program.

Going to dual monitors is the best thing i've ever done. It feels like having 2 computers that work together.

I use ultramon, but I'd consider myself a pretty 'basic' user of ultramon who uses the move to other screen button mostly.

What features do you utilize the most in ultramon?

I can see where it would help with a few applications, I still do think though that most multitasking actually decreases productivity.

bad for your neck, you need 1 monitor (very large) and you can do the same work in the real estate, without having to turn your head at akward angles

My setup is fun, I use a macbook pro 17 with a 24in samsung attached to it, and a mac mini is sitting to the side with a 20in samsung, along with a Imac 24 which are both controlled via remote desktop. So, one keyboard and mouse, 4 monitors, (could have a 5th since the Imac does support dual) and 3 separate computers, so one can be capturing, while one is encoding and can surf and do what ever on the third. I have found this setup to be great. Oh, and all the computers are networked together via Gigabit Ethernet, so I can capture on the Mac mini over ethernet to 3 lacie tyebyte firewire800 drives without issue. ROCKS.

Why do you say that?

I use my monitors as I need them... when I have two monitors active, it's because I'm using them both. If I'm doing work, I'm focused on the work at hand and it doesn't matter how many extra monitors I have.

When I'm not being productive, like watching a vid or something... I'm only using one monitor. The other one is being ignored. On the other hand, if I feel like fucking off... I can multitask and do something productive while I'm fucking off, thanks to the duals!

A 24" widscreen in the center, and a 21" widescreen, turned vertical, on each side of the center monitor.

Pheer nice clean setup. I sell IT equipment for one of the big 3 IT resellers, theres a lot more corporations going dual setups as well due to the productivity increase. Its touted to be more in the 20-25% range for increase. If you want to run 3 monitors you can also give Tripple-Head-To-Go a try from Matrox. They have a dual setup as well so you can run it software based instead of having a multiple output graphics card. Has some cons but its not bad. I think its going to be the only way I can get 2 or 3 external monitors setup on my macbook.
