Dual Monitors help increase productivity

I've always had a dual 22" wide lcd setup on my testing/movie server, but I finally got around to setting up dual 20" wide lcds on my main work computer... Productivity has increase by atleast 50%. being able to have 4 app windows open side by side for comparing and coding is amazing.

i'll never go back to 1 monitor only.

Sly 03-14-2009 10:56 AM

I saw the same thing when I went from 20 inch to 24 inch. Its great not needing to flip back and forth between Windows.

Reak AGV 03-14-2009 10:56 AM

When I had dual monitors it only decreased my work productivity :)

baddog 03-14-2009 10:59 AM

The thing I miss the most when I travel is my dual monitors.

ContentPimp 03-14-2009 11:02 AM

Agreed, it does increase productivity. When I write, I have the FHG on one screen, and the editor on the next. Makes everything much more efficient :)

casinojack 03-14-2009 11:18 AM

I agree! no better way to view youtube and play solitare at same time

BOSS1 03-14-2009 11:21 AM

yes i miss my dualie set up :(

Deej 03-14-2009 11:22 AM

I fully agree...

Wolfy 03-14-2009 12:08 PM

get ultramon. If you think you can't live without dual monitors, wait until you use your duals with that program. :thumbsup

janosik 03-14-2009 12:09 PM

I already have dual setup, but I am considering triple monitor setup now. Does anybody have experience with triple monitor and work productivity?

SBJ 03-14-2009 12:42 PM

my setup i actually had duel pcs and 2 22" lcds.. found it so much faster to keep boards, emails, chats and other basic surfing on one pc and coding, photoshop, and other work on the other pc

Kron 03-14-2009 12:48 PM

I run dual monitors for more than year, but my productivity is not doubled, I have some movie or tv show on one and boards on second monitor, maybe if I try with 3 monitors.....

natas 03-14-2009 12:52 PM

couldnt agree more, id never be able to go back to just one monitor now

u-Bob 03-14-2009 01:20 PM

so true.

seeandsee 03-14-2009 01:22 PM

if you have room get a second computer and add dual monitors to that too. that what i do, my work computer has nothing on it that would distract me.

Going to dual monitors is the best thing i've ever done. It feels like having 2 computers that work together. :)

who 03-14-2009 03:31 PM

Dual monitors helps if I'm coding something

collegeboobies 03-14-2009 03:37 PM

yeah it definately makes things easier

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 03-14-2009 03:59 PM

I was thinking of a massive 6-8 monitor setup.

tiger 03-14-2009 04:00 PM

I thought about going with duals but decided to get a 30" instead.

I use ultramon, but I'd consider myself a pretty 'basic' user of ultramon who uses the move to other screen button mostly.

What features do you utilize the most in ultramon?

After Shock Media 03-14-2009 04:09 PM

I can see where it would help with a few applications, I still do think though that most multitasking actually decreases productivity.

FelixFlow 03-14-2009 04:48 PM

bad for your neck, you need 1 monitor (very large) and you can do the same work in the real estate, without having to turn your head at akward angles

Agreed 100%

Gerco 03-14-2009 05:00 PM

My setup is fun, I use a macbook pro 17 with a 24in samsung attached to it, and a mac mini is sitting to the side with a 20in samsung, along with a Imac 24 which are both controlled via remote desktop. So, one keyboard and mouse, 4 monitors, (could have a 5th since the Imac does support dual) and 3 separate computers, so one can be capturing, while one is encoding and can surf and do what ever on the third. I have found this setup to be great. Oh, and all the computers are networked together via Gigabit Ethernet, so I can capture on the Mac mini over ethernet to 3 lacie tyebyte firewire800 drives without issue. ROCKS.

John-ACWM 03-15-2009 05:50 AM

a must have for the most

Nicky 03-15-2009 06:07 AM

I just upgraded from 12" to 14 on my 386, world of difference. I can now also use 16 bit color instead of 256 :banana

Why do you say that?

I use my monitors as I need them... when I have two monitors active, it's because I'm using them both. If I'm doing work, I'm focused on the work at hand and it doesn't matter how many extra monitors I have.

When I'm not being productive, like watching a vid or something... I'm only using one monitor. The other one is being ignored. On the other hand, if I feel like fucking off... I can multitask and do something productive while I'm fucking off, thanks to the duals!

Mr Pheer 03-15-2009 06:58 PM

I run three monitors.

A 24" widscreen in the center, and a 21" widescreen, turned vertical, on each side of the center monitor.

J. Falcon 03-15-2009 07:06 PM

once you go dual you never go back

omygosh 03-15-2009 07:16 PM

Pheer nice clean setup. I sell IT equipment for one of the big 3 IT resellers, theres a lot more corporations going dual setups as well due to the productivity increase. Its touted to be more in the 20-25% range for increase. If you want to run 3 monitors you can also give Tripple-Head-To-Go a try from Matrox. They have a dual setup as well so you can run it software based instead of having a multiple output graphics card. Has some cons but its not bad. I think its going to be the only way I can get 2 or 3 external monitors setup on my macbook.

Brad Mitchell 03-15-2009 08:20 PM

I do triple monitors and before that I did double. These solutions absolutely increase productivity.

Brad

tony286 03-15-2009 08:27 PM

it does make a big difference.

looks sick, do you have 2 video cards?

JD 03-16-2009 01:45 AM

yeah dual monitors are fucking awesome. I'm rocking a laptop only now though. I'd rather be able to pick up and move my work than have 2 monitors

Yes, both are high end nvidia cards with dual monitor output. I could be running 4 monitors right now but I dont have enough desk space.
