Honestly speaking here 'theking'...what specifically did I say that came across as being a smart ass....besides pointing out what the acronym BMI stood for?

Had I just said "BMI", I'm somewhat confident that most folks would not have understood what that means...(and I could be wrong?that I?m willing to admit to)
However, since I'm described by friends/family as being straight-forward, I like to make sure that when addressing someone regarding a particular subject, I do not come across like "I'm holier than thou" by using fancy acronyms or words that the rest of America never uses in their daily conversations.

This explains why I said: ?That would be Body Mass Index, in case you didn?t know?

If you (or for that matter, DearAby) interpret that statement as being sarcastic in nature, I apologize, as that was not my intention. I merely wanted to present my findings in a clear and consise manner.

Believe me, this stupidity is not limited to McDonalds employeess. I was at the grocery store near my house, similar situation. The bill came to about 5 bucks and some change. I had a 10, a 5, and one dollar coin. So i give her 11 bucks, and she gives me the one back. So i give it back to her.

"I'd like the 5 dollar note instead of some change, thanks"

She gives me the one dollar coin back. "It's only $5.40"

"Yes, i'm aware, but i'd like the 5 dollars change in a note, rather than coins"

She still didn't understand me.

"Look, if i give you 11 dollars, i get 5 dollars back in a note, and some small change. If i give you 10 dollars, i get 4 dollars in coin and some small change."

"OOOHHHH, right. ..... So how much do you want to pay?"

I gave up. I gave her the damn 10 dollars.
