Just reading the book "Watch you bleed" about Guns n Roses

By Stephen Davis who did well with Led Zepellin so I bought this one too.

So far I'm on page 165 and it's "Apetite for Destruction" recorded, and it seems they really were something close to what I always thought they were, sometimes it's hard to figure out truth from myth but I guess it's more truth than myth in this book. I mean I love their music, and they were one hell of an exciting act, it's a part of my upbringing and great memories, but I always thought many of the original members were fucked up in severe ways. Did you know the super praised "Sweet Child o Mine" riff was originally meant as a joke? I believe that. My props to Duff and Izzy, I always had a good feeling about those guys, Duff to be musical, Izzy to be musical and smart. Geffen had serious concerns if they survive the original recording contract, I don't have doubt about this either. Anyway, fuck I would so love to see them live in their early club years in Whisky A Go Go or Troubadour. ![]() Ain't a bad read, I do recommend.

It's the same thing like I am a huge fan of Red Hot Chilli Peppers when they were crazy through the 80's and early 90's and then they came with Californication which was a slight dissapointment, although still completely understandable if you knew some background about the record, but after that I never listened to any of their later albums cause they completely changed direction. Great band at its time, but not producing a music I would want them to associate with. It's like if you compared the original Fleetwood Mac with the 80's Fleetwood Mac, just no comparsion, nothing to compare.

Davis is really a master of putting together a whole lot of information from different sources, lots of the stuff just sounds like bragging, but I guess they really were fucked up and off the hook.

Kinda weird how music works though. The dumbest riff's sometimes end up being the best ones.

I heard DImebag Darrel talkin about some of Pantera's Riff's in an interview and he basically said he never thought for a minute that these meaningless riff's of Panetera would ever be what they became and the solo's were all made for the show.

James Hetfield has said the near same thing and has expressed alot of anger with Lars and Hammet that they tend to bungle up the simplicity and over complicate riffs in the creative process.

Personally I think James is right. It's pretty appearent in the new Album that James got his way for simplified riffs. But maybe to much so LOL

i'm currently reading Mick Wall's unauthorized biography of Axl. So far, so good.

I didn't know which one to choose from since many books were writen recently about Axl and GNR. I have already slash's, and a bad GNR bio from a couple of years back but needed more info to have a better idea for myself... Why I chose Mick Wall ( W.A.R.: The Unauthorized Biography of William Axl Rose par Mick Wall) is simple: He's mentionned in the song Get in the ring ( mick wall at Kerrang! you frustrated cause your daddy gets more pussy than you. fuck you, suck my fucking dick...) But I'm not yet half way through |

Only heard two tracks of Chinese Democracy so far - not impressed how they fucked around with Axl's vocals. At times it doesn't even sound like his voice.

I could've waited another 20 years if this was the best they could offer. Loved their old stuff. |

I've read some reviews at Amazon, the ultraorthodox fans are slamming the book, I don't think it's nearly that bad, would say it's actually pretty decent so far and Davis did a good job.

There's not that many bands that would get so super orthodox super die hard fans following (kinda like Nirvana) and I guess it's them writing shit.

I finished the book last week,

What's quite interesting and explains a lot is that practically all the people that had any say around Guns n Roses had to sign some form of a complicated NDA so you couldn't just come and make a brand new interview, so it doesn't have many citations or exclusive interviews in it. I'm quite confident they'll never reunite though after I read the history in this - plain impossible.

Chinese Democraty is ok but no where near Appetite or even Use Your illusions, so it only proves it wasn't a one man band. What makes him so interesting then? It's the "danger" factor. You never know what to expect when he's involved in something. Kind of like what Mike Tyson was to boxing. You should hear how Lars Ulrich describes exactly that. Actually interesting. But Axl alone? He's just a small town white boy abused by his dad insecure piece of shit. |

The new album has nothing to do with any of GN'r previous albums. The most we'll ever see of the original formation I think it's Velvet Revolver. I liked both their albums, it was very nice to hear Slash and Duff together again.
