Lighting question: Diva lights vs Caselights
I'm trying to get some opinions on Kino flo diva lights vs the Lowel caselights. I know people talk wonders about Kinos here, but I hear the caselights are supposed to have the same light output in a more portable case. Anybody have any info on these things? Which of the two would you recommend?

I have a pair of Diva 400's which pack into a hard travel case. It's always a pain in the ass. I'd compare the size and weight of the cases then make a decision if I were you.
One note about the Kino's. The stands that come with the 2 light kit are crap and they WILL fall over on fuck up your lights if you are not VERY careful with them. You could use sandbags or something like that to weigh them down but that's just more heavy shit to pack and bring with you. |

I love KinoFlo, but for my purposes, the Diva Lights are too small. I don't travel with them on an airplane so portability is not a major issue for me. But if you have to travel, Diva Lights are pretty convenient. My lights just have to be small enough to fit in my Jeep. I use multiple four-foot four-bank Kino Flo lights and some Lowells as well on location on my local sets.

if money is the issue . go witht he cool lights .. however I've always stuck to my Kino's .. love them .. however they are not the end all of lighting ... they do have they're use and are not god for all lighting situations and are way over priced
an other great lighting fixture that I've had limited exeprience with, but apsolutely loved they're usablility is the "Rololight" .. tons of different configurations, One bulb or 50 bulbs .. you can build a light wall .. or just light the under side of a bed .. etc .. if you want awesome floresent lighting and money is no object then this is the light to go for ![]() more info at http://en.corporation.rololight.com/iiix/splash/ do it the way the pros do .. learn for years of experience .. I'm available for private and corporate workshops on lighting, shooting techniques as well as camera calibration ..

Kinos are great, I have three diva 400 universals and one gaffer kit. It all depends on your budget. Do not get caught up in the hype, I have also used caselights and they are good also.
A lot of the gonzo stuff from redlight district was shot using caselights. So if you like that look use caselights. If you like the perfectgonzo look, use all kinos and houses with a lot of natural lighting. |
