Why do they tell you to buy grocery store stock when the economy is bad?

They always say "Even in a bad economy people have to eat" so you should buy grocery store stocks....same thing with other "essentials"

But, don't people have to eat when the economy is good too?

I would wager a guess that people would eat out more (fast food, restaurants, gatherings, etc) when the economy is better and they have extra money.

That being said, people need shelter too but would you really have invested in real estate last year?

for sure. its "they" that have the stock in grocery stores and with you and others buying, only makes them more money.

i would buy stock in guns right now. economy is going down the tubes and people are scared to put their money in the bank, so they hide it under their mattress and in fear of being robbed they need to arm themselves

am i the only one that paid attention to 9th grade social studies? hahahaha

people spend more money on luxureous goods in supermarkets because it's the last possible way to enjoy live a little more.
Learned that in economy class in high school many years ago.

If they cannot buy a new car or house, they just select a nice wine, a french cheese, etc.
so they feel that live ain't that bad since they can still enjoy the best food.

Then why do I always have to wait to get a seat when I go out? Might I remind you of a few weeks ago in LA? What was the wait? 30 - 45 minutes? And that place wasn't exactly small.

LA is a whole other breed of human. I don't think the great depression could slow them down.

Actually supermarkets get hurt also. I remember this was during the recession in the early 90's/late eighties. I was at dinner and one of the guys there was a gm of a supermarket. A friend of mine said you guys must do great now and the guy said actually no. People cut back instead of 2 packages of cookies they buy one, instead of steak they are buying more pasta. They might be going more to us but their dollar amount spent drops.
