He did say in an interview that he stopped acting to do music. Perhaps he has more passion for music than he has for acting.

Not like acting is a 24/7 or even a 40 hour a week gig. Nothing at all to stop him from picking up another film latter on when the cash runs low or he gets nowhere with music. Plus hell maybe he stashed away plenty of cash. Not sure if this really qualifies as an epic fail.
