Holy Fuck! Miss Cleo made $1 Billion in 3 years!

Remember these late night infomercials?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...o_settlement_6

It never ceases to amaze me how many stupid people there are in this world. People actually phone in to that and hand over their credit card info so they can hear some bullshit psychic mumbo jumbo. And not just a few people, but 6 million people!

These are the same people who think Bangbus is real. There is so much money to be made from the stupidity of the average person out there that it's scary.

A male friend of mine used to do phone sex and say he was a female, he had a voice changer thing that made him sound like a bitchy old lady.

He'd get a lot of requests from guys who were into shemales and men who wanted to fuck their own mother

lol I contributed to that 1 billion! I worked as a Virtual Operator for Miss Cleo. The companies name is actually Psychic Readers Network. and no I didn't take work as a Psychic, I took calls and forwarded them to the psychics. You wouldn't believe the number of people that called in, it was unreal. The FCC went after PRN because they had some psychics that were frauds. Some of the psychics had some really deceptive tricks to keep the callers on the line. Some even tried to extort money from the callers. The business just got too big and out of control. The owner, Steve Feder actually contracted out to other companies to hire operators and psychics. Once he did that he started losing control over who was hired and what they were doing on the phone.

I am sure that the company that runs those late night phone sex commercials is probably making the same kinds of money. Its amazing the masses of people that you can reach using television advertising.

What a fuckin joke, I can just picture a room with about 50 "psychics" sitting at workstations talking to people on the phone and feeding them bullshit. Typical topics like love, career/money, health, etc...

People just want to believe in anything, Jesus, Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, psychics, it's all the same. Sooooo many people in this world are too quick to believe anything they see or hear.

first thing i'd ask a psychic on the phone is what the color of my shirt was,, if it was wrong then i'd hang up,,

but then why talk to psychic to predict the future when it's gonna happen anyways?

The thing that really blows my mind is that I bet a lot of the people who phoned in were doctors, lawyers, business people, etc... People that you would think would be smart enough to know that the whole thing is a sham, but they aren't.

I wonder if she ever saw this coming! You would think she would have been better prepared. Maybe she should have called her own line and asked.

Actually "She" is Steve Feder, the owner. Miss Cleo was paid to do commericials and act as a spokesperson for PRN. Miss Cleo never took psychic calls for PRN. It was amazing how many people would call and ask to speak to her. We always had to say something to the effect that she wasn't taking calls right now or was booked up, etc.

All these psychics and virtual operators worked from their homes. The operators signed into a website and calls were forwarded. You would get a script up depending on what number they had called. Since alot of the commericials were different. The psychics logged on using the phone. Once they were logged in, calls were routed to their phone numbers. As far as I know the psychics didn't have scripts. When someone was hired as a psychic they were asked to sign a statement saying they were psychic. And "some" (depending who hired them) did test calls. The test call consisted on actually giving a reading over the phone to the tester.

I actually owned my own virtual call center which was subscontracted under a company under the main company. lol I only employed virtual operators. And yes we did test them as well.

How would anyone working for the company know this? Until the FCC case no one knew anything. It was a good idea that got too big for one guy to control all aspects of the business.

There are alot of people that like to get psychic readings. PRN was simply providing a service that people wanted. Many of us here promote adult sponsers that we know the members area is terrible, others promote gambling sites. Some promote phone sex! All just providing a service that the consumer wants!

Almost all forms of advertizing work by convincing people they need something they could do just as well without.

If most people were born with high degrees of self control and the ability to reflect on their impulses before acting on them, most modern advertizing methods would be useless.

The clients cover a whole spectrum of society - just the same as adult site members and I'm sure many know this stuff is fake - they just wanna *believe* or with adult sites, fulfil a fantasy! *g*

when they first were filing charges a lot of media ppl went around and interviewed the ppl who had been ripped

and the one thing the interviewer noticed which he pointed out was

every1 that he talked to talked about getting calls 5 times a day, etc etc

but noone actually said they didn't believe in psychics!

that blew my mind, but its totally true. these ppl just got mad cause they were taken for $500 bills not cuz they felt like the actual advice sucked

I thought the whole thing went to court because of their continued BS about "free" shit that wasn't really free at all... deceptive advertising or some such. Did I miss something?

Also, as someone who reads tarot (NO, I don't make money from it and I don't even read for other people!), I can tell you that some of the cards in some of the positions are always going to sound good. The key is in reading between the lines or, in the case of telephone psychics, the loose interpretation and conveyance of what's between the lines. It's really not that hard to make someone who WANTS to believe buy into whatever you want to feed them
