Interesting read.
Some good points about the spamming business, certainly worth reading.

There is so much talk about spam at the end of that, they talk as if spamming people is the only way to generate sales.

Some consider it the most effective source of sales.

quiet,
I don't think BUSINESS discussion would generate many responces on GFY.

Let's face it,
the huge %% of GFYers are designers and for them the topics of business is not the topic of their prime interest.

Glad to see that some GFYers are still more interested in BUSINESS than
who'd would marry pornstar if they had enough money or dick to go along
;-)))

larger companies need to focus more on quality than quantity.

"Back in my BBS (Computer Bulletin Board) days adult members had to make a photo copy of their drivers license before they could access the system. Once approved they could purchase credits. There weren?t any charge backs. We had a signature on file. Imagine if that had to be done today? "

companies like Legondary Lar's cumtv.com ( a camgirls site)require that for over $100 purchases.

I think you're comments are probably right about some of the parts of that article but there are some valid points in there too.

Allowing people to get into this industry through free hosting and free content is damaging the industry because it teaches the wrong lesson about doing business here. People don't get taught the value of good marketing skills - and why should they care if their conversion ratio is crap, they don't have a budget to make each month.

Big sponsor sites that take the surfer's money on the promises made in a wonderful tour and then don't deliver in the members' area also damage the market because the surfer will only get burned so many times before he stops signing up and his cynicism filters through to his buddies as well.

The urge by some sponsors to make the quick buck rather than the longterm buck is going to hurt us all sooner rather than later. Sadly, there is no need for that because if we treat our members right they will remain and rebill and the income to be made from these people will be far greater than the initial quick buck.

"They promise the world if you'll only pass through this particular door... this portal... this gateway to the fullfillment of your wildest, kinkiest, sickest, most outrageous and kinky fantasies. Of course, they don't actually deliver on the promises, again much like yesteryear's barkers, but once they get you to click through on the promise of sexual paradise their job is done and they only have to hold their hands out for their lords and masters--the big trafficteers--to share a bit of the swag. "

Nice.

I think the majority of people in the industry today that started less then 3 years ago used a free host at one point. I did. I see nothing wrong with them. You grow out of them of course, but people need to start somewhere.

I also think that a lot of the scammers and false promise people just make it easier for those that are honest to make HUGE money. Cheating someone only works for a short time period. Just my thoughts............

Perhaps so but there are a lot who never get off free and that just makes it harder for everyone else.
