Warning Business Topic!!! 2257 related
With the new 2257 regs inching in, it seems like there could be a good opportunity for the "right" company. With the new regulations it appears that the govt is now allowing us to legally link to a 3rd party for our 2257 legal requirements.
It seems like this could be the perfect opportunity for the "right" company to become a independent 3rd party records holder for the industry. I stress the "right" company because no one is going to trust their asses to some GFY dimwit which leaves me out.. I wanted to post this because I've seen no one talk of this and I'm really surprised no one has thought of the idea. If we had a trusted company then primary producers could send in the legal docs to this "3rd party" then the 3rd party could become the record keeper for the many secondary producers and affiliates. This would greatly reduce the risk for performers being their ID's and personal info would not be handed out to just anyone. It would also simplify things greatly for both affiliates and even the DOJ whom inspects the records. While I'm not a 2257 expert, I do know that just linking to a primary producer is not going to fly. As other records still need to be kept, such as links to the location the content is listed. A centralized 3rd party could use software that allows affiliates and producers to simply input their data via the web. Charging a small monthly fee from both primary and secondary producers/affiliates could make this a profitable business and still provide a reliable and cheap service for the industry as a whole. IMO this should likely be a company in LA, simply because so much of the industry is located there. Anyway just a thought and a idea..

I own 2257regulations.com and 2257regs.com...
But I don't think that idea would fly. Let's pretend that I am the record keeper for your website, and you put up a content set that you don't have the proper docs on, but you still list me as the custodian. Soon afterwards, I get a knock on the door from the feds wanting to see the paperwork for that set, and you never sent it to me. Who's in trouble then?

When the 2257 issue was more buzz a while back several people were scrambling to profit from it, and it doesn't seem like much happened.
Third party record keepers would have too much liability, and you said "small monthly fee"... I think they'd need to charge and arm and a leg for a service like that, but that's just my useless opinion. |

should work, but probably best left to a non profit organization. to keep things somewhat un-biased etc.
AIM could be an option or part of a solution since they already have 99% of talent id's in their database. |

ok i am confused i thought the point of the the 3rd party deal was to make it more like the canadian system, so i buy content from you
i link to you as the record keeper My 2257 documentation is basically a spreadsheet with all my sets and who i bought them from. |

Nobody in their right mind would trust adult webmasters enough to start such an endeavor..
If someone did take it on, it would more than likely be a crash & burn business shortly after launch.. Major risk.. |

If you read 2257.. the risk is not the record keepers. They are just the location for the records. The liability is still on each producer secondary & primary to have the records in place before the content is used not the 3rd party record keeper.
