Software/websites to teach typing?

Any recommendations for quality desktop software or web apps that will help teach someone how to type properly?

First step is just to realize you really do not need to look and get over that mental block. Most people already know how to type without looking if they have worked on a keyboard for a good period of time, just also many still think they must look.

If still not certain just type with the lights out so you can not really see the keys. For instance I know I made a typo before I even really read it on screen and more from knowing my finger landed in wrong place. Though on occasion when they keyboard is a bit off center or something I can mess up for a moment.

Now if you mean to type where you use almost all or all of your fingers - that sort of typing, err never mind - stop trying that in high school after the teachers were more concerned with form over function.

Typing is one of those things that if I don't think about it I can do it quite fast and accurate. I haven't tested myself in about forever so I don't know if my speed is as fast as it used to be. Right now because I am actually "thinking" about typing I am going slower and making more mistakes than usual.

I have been looking for something online and free that my daughter can use to improve her typing skills. Never a bad ability to have.

In this age I think it is essential. I don't know anybody that does a job that doesn't involve a bit of typing these days. It isn't just for secretaries any more.

Thanks for the suggestions... it's for my gf that pretty much can't type at all. I'll teach her the basics, but she's going to need something she can practice with on a daily basis.
