A few questions for the SEO bro's

Guys (or gals),

I've been working to better understand the finer points of adult webmastery, and I have a few questions regarding links that I'm sure are easy breezy for you elites. So if you'll be so kind as to indulge me:

1. Hardlinks = www.whateverblahblahblah.com , right?
2. Backlinks = the same as hardlinks? I read the wikipedia article on them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlink), but I'm wondering if there's a difference here.
3. Deeplinks = per (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_linking), this only differentiates a homepage link from a specific page of content. Is ANY NON-homepage link a deeplink?

When you guys invest in hardlinks or link trades, the idea is to increase SE traffic and PR, not so much to get referral traffic from those actual links themselves, right? What kinda ROI do you look for on these investments? I know its an infinitely variable equation, but you must have some idea of what you expect to yield from your expenditure on those links.

Thanks!

A good link placed on an extremely trustworthy and very relevant page with the right link text could be gold.

If this were to happen, where in your stats would that specific link stand out? Would it manifest itself as SE traffic increase, referral traffic, or what?

probably as an SE traffic increase, but it depends on a lot of things. They could send lots of traffic from that link as well as it being a big boon to the SE's.

So I guess when you factor in the time it takes for SE indexing updates to occur, and the fact that most people buy/trade multiple links at a time, it can be challenging to isolate a specifically productive one out of the bunch, unless it sends noticeable referral traffic as well, right?

Gotta be careful at buying links. Too many at a time is not necessarily a good thing. If you want to buy multiple links, you could try multiple pages targeting different keywords and see how each source performs. Trial and error your ass into it until you find one or several that work for you. If they work for you that great, they probably also know their shit and will keep you from being penalized for buying links in the first place.

Ahh, gotcha. Using differing keywords makes sense. So, with regard to possible negative effects of having too many links, are there some common noob pitfalls that should be avoided? (link farms, perhaps)

I've read about google dropping the proverbial ban hammer on your SE ranking if their system decides you're trying to 'power-link' your site into SE stardom, so to speak.

Yes, any SEO strategy will involve hundreds of different factors so its sometimes difficult to see what the results are aside from the referral stats. Make a plan then tweak as you go.

When looking at links from a seo perspective, there is nothing to isolate, you should know which ones are good and which one aren't before you even buy them... if you don't, then most likely you will buy worthless crap... seller will laugh all the way to the bank, while you will sit there puzzled why you lost $$ on the link buying campaign...

then of course your page has to have the right keyword density and placement. having a good domain that is relevant to/or is the keyword you plan on targeting doesn't hurt either.

Nah, I've just found that in nearly all situations, the absolute best and fastest way to learn about something is to do a little cursory reading, then politely ask someone who knows a lot more than you about the subject. It's never failed me yet.
