Your favorite Motown song?

I was just enjoying listening to a radio program about how next week is the 50th anniversary of the Motown label. Since then I have been working with Motown songs playing in the background.

What is your favorite Motown song? I don't think it is my ultimate favorite but I am enjoying the Temptation's Papa Was A Rolling Stone at the moment.

If you like Motown and you haven't seen this documentary about the Funk Brothers, I'd highly recommend it.

Standing in the Shadows of Motown. Great interviews, stories, pictures.. Great live performances, too. Bootsy Collins, Ben Harper, Joan Osborne..

My family lived in Flint back in the 60s and of course being so close to detroit Motown
was the music of choice for the teenagers back then.

We then moved to Miami and my sister who was in high school at the time found out
real quick that Motown wasn't welcome in the south

Gladys Knight and the Pips had left Motown before recording "Midnight Train to Georgia."

Jackie Wilson is one name that often gets overlooked.

Berry Gordy used money earned off Jackie to form Motown in the first place.

Does this mean I'm disqualified from the thread for failing to distinguish between " Motown Sound " and " Motown Records "

The documentary, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, about the Funk Bros. is not to be missed if you're a fan of the sound or music history.

Favorite song, maybe the Marvelettes Please Mr. Postman, or the Temptation's Ball of Confusion. I also love Rare Earth's version of Get Ready. So many great ones to choose from.

No, you can stay but be warned that you'll be subjected to a pain-in-the-ass know-it-all Motown fan.

Gladys Knight and the Pips best Motown song is "Neither One of Us."

Great song. Also add Edwin Starr to the list, specifically 'War".
