I want someone from AVN to contact me about this. I bought tickets early, and am one of the sponsors for the block party paying for the suite.

There better be some discounts in that conversation.

But... and it's a big butt... Even if it was $400 or $500 I would likely still attend. Its a six digit return on almost every show that I attend. I can complain, but not so much, really.

It's not like I don't end up spending 5-15k in travel and hospitality when I fly solo at these things, anyways. Those drinks at the hotel bar I'm always buying aren't free... and it's not quantity at the shows that has value, it's just finding a few quality conversations at every one.

Brad

I agree with you, but it does suck for people who bought passes ahead of time and now the price is much lower. My guess is the number of attendees is way below what they are looking for, and people who may not of bought passes probably did and they are counting on a few more sales to increase the revenue.

I held off from buying a pass for my gf/biz partner because i wanted her to try and win one off a contest; to my surprise there was hardly any. So we had the choice. Try and wing it hoping some sponsor would pick up her tab, or jut fork out the $300.

I know taking a $150 hit when you see this hurts and I would be upset too, but Im not running back to the gas station to get a refund on gas I bought last week because it is $.10 cheaper this week. No one knew this was going to happen, but I highly doubt they are going to refund people the price difference, that would be a huge loss for them. Instead, now they probably have a bunch of pissed off webmasters who are going to wait to the last minute to buy passes for the next show.

Either way, I think they could of done the promo a bit different so they wouldn't of upset so many people, but I still think even at $300, its still worth the money.

I agree, Atlanta and Phoenix forum have high badge fees but the fees are justified with the free meals, transportation, welcome and farewell receptions among tons of other freebies that are included. I don't recall AVN doing anything more than lining their pockets.

Also, has anyone tried booking their rooms directly from the hotel? You'd be surprised to see that AVN's rates are about $40-$50/night more expensive than booking with the Palms directly.

Enough is enough, AVN, stop lining your pockets or you're going to lose the people that made your business.

You have to be joking about the hotel rates being cheaper going direct.

NickSunshine 01-06-2009 04:06 AM

my rooms at the palms were like 100 bucks / night cheaper by going direct.

All true. Interestingly enough, the rooms at the Palms Place Hotel and Space (attached property, different tower) are twice as big for less money. I also think it's worth pointing out that the Gold Coast http://www.goldcoastcasino.com/accom.../premium-rooms which is a 1 minute walk across the street has rooms for $35-60/night.

I like a lavish hotel more than anyone but being completely honest, I'd be happier with an awesome cheap stay... at a place that is still very well run... with less expensive drinking and dining. It would be nice if someone would choose 3-4 star venue that we could fill up and present exceptional value in every respect. I think despite the fact there are "too many shows" it is still possible to break down all the barriers and get super high attendance again at a Vegas venue.

I think that the Phoenix and Atlanta Forums, Vegas Xbiz, Qwebec Expo and a few other venues really set a high standard when it comes to how well we taken care of with entertainment, transportation, and well planned meals.

Brad

aGREED ToeJo.

Normally I stay at the hotel where the shindig is. But this time, those rates were simply too high for a conference. I opted to hit the GoldCoast instead, and get one of their premium rooms.

For the $800+ I'll save in hotel fees, I can spend on broads in Vegas, or do three photo shoots when I get home giving me 24 sets!!

I like the conferences as much as anyone, but I think with an industry on the whole, and almost every segment going through some change, it would be nice to see some return on the investment (food, freebies, less expensive rooms, etc).

:2 cents:

Chargeback, man up about it and get your money back, or shut the fuck up. That's business motherfuckers. Anyone crying about this definitely won't be missed. Who enjoys the company of whiny little crybaby bitches? No one. Do something about it, take action. Crying on an Internet message board doesn't count as taking action. Man the fuck up or shut the fuck up. No exceptions, no matter who the fuck you think you are.

A chargeback isn't the way to bitch about it either. You can't issue a chargeback for the sole reason of getting an item cheaper, especially if you plan on using that same CC to rebuy the exact same item for 50% less.

I always check hotel rates directly for the Vegas show because I know they are always cheaper. I got a killer deal on a two bedroom suite at the Palms last year because it was in the older section that had not been remodeled yet. It was still very nice and I think I only paid a little more than a normal AVN rate room.

If I were going this year, I would be booking at the Gold Coast.

Talk about kicking the gift horse in the mouth!

GFY has worked out a limited time deal with AVN to get GFY users a discounted pass. This is not an offer open to everyone it is an offer we worked out for a limited time with AVN. Just like when you buy your ticket on Southwest or another airline, and after you purchase a deal comes along.

The deal is there for you guys to take advantage of, AVN and GFY worked out this deal for you guys. You can either take advantage of it, or bitch. Your choice.

BradM 01-06-2009 10:53 AM

Fact: AVN is a piece of shit and the people who work there are jackasses
Fact: AVN should NOT exist. The fact that it does is just stupid.

Southwest will credit your CC directly for the difference if the ticket price drops after your purchase (though the other airlines will just give flight credits). I don't have a dog in this fight but unless AVN is crediting the difference for people who bought early, this is a really bad comparison. :winkwink:

If you don't understand why GFY users are upset, you may want to step back from the situation here and do some damage control instead of attacking people or calling them crybabies. :)

Most places do have price matching guarantees though. Starwood hotels always will give you the difference back thru their price matching. Similiarly, retailers will do the same for most major brands. Airlines is a bit tougher but like Peaches said, they mostly will do price matches to keep people happy.

It is a good deal for certain individuals. Not everyone got the offer. I think that the timing could have been better. Many of us have made all of our arrangements already so this offer is moot. Maybe that was the idea. Send out a last minute offer knowing that a lot of people purchased already.

jimbowski 01-06-2009 11:05 AM

this is precisely the reason why i STOPPED going to avn shows! disorganized and not worth the money... i can go to phoenix forum, any xbiz show, or any webmaster access and get what i paid for and do just as much if not more biz there. :2 cents:

sucks for you guys that got ripped off...

take a look at xbiz, instead of talking crap about them... their last show was free and amazing... everyone i spoke with was happy. Give everyone their money back, bite the bullet on this one and HOPE all the pissed off people still consider attending another avn event after this shit.

-- this same deal is also being offered from other boards not just gfy if you havent noticed --

We got cheaper rooms at the Venetian going directly through them rather than Rose Tours.

I tried to get a suite yesterday at the Palms dealing with them directly and it didn't go so hot.
