:stop Is adobe illustrator the best?

Questions....

1) Is adobe illustrator the best illustration software out today?

2) What type of accessories should I get to make the most of it?

It depends on what do you plain to do

If you need it for web design graphics Photoshop is the most powerful choice, if you need it to print at small size Photoshop keep being the best choice, but if you need to print reasonably big then you should use vectors.

For traditional graphic design I preffer Freehand (from the old Macromedia), its much more stable and run faster. For illustration then I would choice Illustrator.

Accesories?

A pantone if you want to print accurate colors.
A wacom tablet if you plain to paint or draw though it works much better with Photoshop.
Lot of patience

For web design I am partial to Fireworks. Everyone loves Photoshop but Fireworks just seems to fit better with web design work.

If photoshop made vector graphics then I would never use illustrator.

I have an old photoshop so maybe the newest photoshop does, I don't know.

It's always been possible to make vectors with Photoshop. It's not exactly "meant" to do it, but It's possible. I've always used PS for my vector artwork.

Shit, just google "vector in photoshop" or something.

I always preferred Freehand for page layouts or product box design, etc., but yes, for professional illustration and scalability Illustrator is the best choice.

Having all three tools in your arsenal and Quark Xpress would be the way I would go

you don't print with photoshop
you print with indesign

pantone isn't the most accurate color...its expensive (the ink itself) and used mainly for colors that are hard to achive using the regular printing method with CMYK (gold, silver etc).

p.s. freehand is dead, you should move on to illustrator cs4

It's the industry standard for vector image work.

If you want to do that, get it.

As to people here suggesting fireworks or indesign - WTF? They do not do what Illustrator does.
