For traditional graphic design I preffer Freehand (from the old Macromedia), its much more stable and run faster. For illustration then I would choice Illustrator.

A pantone if you want to print accurate colors.
A wacom tablet if you plain to paint or draw though it works much better with Photoshop.

you don't print with photoshop
you print with indesign
pantone isn't the most accurate color...its expensive (the ink itself) and used mainly for colors that are hard to achive using the regular printing method with CMYK (gold, silver etc).
p.s. freehand is dead, you should move on to illustrator cs4
