Drupal, Joomla, Geeklog, etc, are not blogs.. they're overkill for a blog site. If you ever gain a lot of traffic on those sites be prepared to throw a lot of hardware at them..

Yeah, the latest Wordpress is GREAT!!! Joomla is great for websites, IMHO, though I think WP trumps it with regards to blogging.

I could never get the hang of Wordpress, I always found that the interface and features actually get in the way of getting stuff done.

Serendipity is my favorite engine, it is very easy to customize.

Depends what you want I use both - Joomla is great if you are building communities want forums, mailing lists etc etc ... but if you just want an easy to setup and maintain blog def WP 2.7 it rocks!

Who am I to determine that Serendipity is absolutely best blog software on the planet? Well, I'll admit I've only been using blog software for 6 months. I've only tried Serendipity, Word Press and Nucleus. However, I have created over 20 full web sites using software from all areas. I've used Mambo, Joomla, Nucleus, Word Press, Serendipity, Java Servlets and JSPs', plain HTML pages and Serendipity is my favorite.

What about the people who are saying that wordpress is crashing again and again with large blogs, even with all the cacheing plugins and supposedly good servers?

I haven't seen it personally, but I've heard about it.

That is serendipity's only shortcoming, not a big community developer support... If you know your way around smarty though and can put together your own themes using a designer created css template, it is a great solution.

I have a mainstream community site that used to run on Drupal, but I never liked the tools or the layout. Then I went to Joomla and I will never look back. I had a custom built design that made the whole site look 100 times better then anything I could have with Drupal. Plus there are so many cool extensions for Joomla that really add to the site. Only thing is Joomla is a database monster, you better have a solid DB to run it or your site will lag.

Installation of Serendipity was a breeze, both on GoDaddy and HostGator. The default install went well, with the exception of course that GoDaddy does not put your MySQL database on "localhost", but on another server. Once you know the name of that server it's all good.

Once installed, changing styles is also easy. Serendipity comes with a number of built in themes/templates which are a snap to install. Basically you just go to Manage Styles in the administration menu and choose your new theme. It couldn't be easier.

Modifying templates is also quite simple. Most users simply want to change colors or graphics and this can all be done withing the style.css file for your template. I chose to make a copy of the "competition" template and modify my copy. All I had to change was the info.txt file and style.css, add my images to the img directory and I was good

About templates, you can prepare .psd and integrate into serendipity.

WordPress is the best blog engine in the world. When reviewing systems, nothing stacked up the the ease and flexibility of WordPress. I love to use it also as CMS but one of the coolest thing is that you can download a lot of free themes. Drupal came close, but it was harder to install setup and use.

Pussies!

You easy route mother fuckers...

you have semi valid points but drupal is far from dead. Capabilities far exceed WP... Not that i wouldnt advise the average webmaster to use WP. But, if you have the know how, Drupal overcomes!

It depends on the site...

If it will be a simple set up with out tons of category pages that need separate adds and modules then go with WP.

If you need a lot of categories with many options for each page layout, then go with joomla.

if you want a web2.0 touch to your site and youre able to work with its more difficult CMS - Drupal

WordPress is probably the most popular blogging software for bloggers worldwide, but sometimes, we may have bigger ideas requiring bigger features than WordPress can possibly handle.

Joomla is good for larger sites with multiple contributors. To administer Joomla, you need to understand a few things about databases. To customize Joomla, you have to know quite a bit about HTML, CSS, and PHP, the programming language Joomla is written in.
