I remember reading magazine that does reviews on house hold products and they said the TV standby or microwave clock can use up to $100 worth of electricity per year.

everyone here pushes energysaving devices, its on the tv every day, how much $ you can save

so energy saving lightbulbs solarlights etc are something Ive been using for ages already. Even if you have a shitload of money, spending 10k on regular lightbulbs a year is a total waiste of money and energy imho

I only do 3 somes when hiring hookers, that way I can negotiate a two for 1 deal or at least get a percentage discount.

One question, for those that say that porn sales have no correlation with the economic-downturn...what do you think many surfers will cut in the first place?

Food or those nasty subscriptions?
Cable or " "?
Electricity or " "?
and so on...

Its global and it affects everything...

I turned the pool heater down after the $450+ gas bill considering I'm not really using it now anyway.

Other than that, not a damn thing.

I think its important to cut back .Sales are fine now but it would be a shame if 2009 started really bad and to not have the rainy day funds to get thru that time.

What does the economy have to do with anything? I'm making more and more every month.

In a few days I'm leaving on what is going to end up being a 7 week trip.

I dunno man, here the energy saving lightbulbs are over $7, whereas the normal ones are like 60 cents... I've got the energy savers outside because they're on all night but it's not cost effective otherwise.

I'm a cheap fuck anyway so I don't have to cut back...However, it is a must that I keep my television on, my heat blasting, my lights on, my stomach and weed pipe full, and that I can drive wherever I want.

I haven't really changed much, but I'm looking to be more efficient. If you annualise costs and consider the bulk equivalents the differences can be remarkable. For example, instead of buying a small bottle of drink every day, buy a larger one and spread it over 2 days. That small change saves several hundred dollars a year. If you're a bottled water junkie for no real reason other than "it's good for me" then filtering your own water can save a shitload.

The other area I need to be more efficient in is home office cooling, I have 5 servers on 24/7 plus assorted networking equipment. The added thermal load is enough that I have the overhead heating vent permanently closed, and the A/C compressor runs constantly for several hours during a hot summer day. I'm currently fooling around with using a water cooled fan that will sink heat to an outside evaporative cooling reservoir. It won't make much difference on a stinking hot day, but overnight when the inside temperature is higher than outside it should help to cool the room a lot more efficiently. (At the moment, the A/C compressor starts and the unit blows out cool air into the office, I walk out the door and the rest of the house has HEATING blowing out of the overhead vents... it's faintly ridiculous...)

One other thing I'm thinking about is farmer's markets, where you buy produce directly from farmers. The supermarkets around here are currently bleating about their fresh produce being delivered fresh, direct and "as-is" from the farmers, so why should I pay a 100%-200% markup just so I can talk to a young checkout chick for 30 seconds? :D

Most of the cut backs we have have made have been because we wanted to. The trick now is to get the electric cut back a bit. right now we are averaging about 150 a month.

Mine is more than double that. Wanna trade?

I've had some as high as $650+ for a single month.

Moving from a big house to a small house almost 8 years ago was the smartest thing I ever did. I went from an average electric/gas bill of $600-800 a month to less than $150. We didn't even use most of the rooms in the big house but there was no way to shut them off. The only thing I miss are my big closets!!

There are still so many things though that I haven't/won't change - I will always buy premium dog food, will always spend big $$$ to eat out (hey, I like good steak and seafood), when I travel I don't travel cheap - what's the point, I don't bother unplugging anything and right now my TV is on and I'm not watching it ;), and I've started spending more on organic and farm raised foods. But there are a lot of things (listed in my first post) that I just naturally came to cut down on. But my incontinent dog still wears name brand diapers and feminine pads, lol.

dude, just move everything in a somewhat enclosed area and exhaust the hot air out with an inline duct fan (leave openings for air to get in of course)

http://www.wscdirect.net/servlet/the...EXHAUST/Detail

a little bit of duct & exhaust right into the attic or outside, done deal

they are pretty much silent, if you mount fan in the attic you wont even hear it in your office

that's how you do it when growing herb... so i've heard

Yeh I know some video editors that did the same thing... 20 computers can really heat up a room, LOL. You need to get rid of the heat as opposed to cool it.

yeah man, its just about moving the heat out.. shit its free heating in the winter if you're into tinkering with stuff

can't blanket a room with cooling, just suck the heat out

those high pressure lights could get a room to be like 110+ pretty quickly, thank god for the cool tube

sucks the heat right out and keeps em cool w/ fresh room temperature circulating over it

I guess we've cut back on eating out so much, but that just sort of happened naturally I guess since winter came along. Too fucking cold to leave the house.
I live in LA too, besides the last couple days, it really hasn't been that cold! LOL

kmart has super double coupon days where i live, they will double ANYTHING up to $2, so if you have a $1.50 coupon for something that costs $2.75, you will get it free

If some of us are seeing the credit crunch all ready, I am sure we will all be seing it over the next 6-12 months. Most people are allready complaining about higher refusals and less new memberships, however some people have seen revenues grow, why?

Well in a recession like any other time of stress there will be opportunities to grow more, and many potential pitfalls to avoid. Working harder is not necessarily the key, working smarter is.

Many people are still not maximising the earning potential of their existing site. To me this makes no logical sense, if someone here was only offering sign up by Mastercard, not VISA you would think they were crazy right? Yet loads of you don't do alternative billing!! It is saying no to free money!

This is not some overhyped sales pitch, several companies offer great alternative billing solutions, not just me, so please hit my sig or one of the other guys, but add some alternative billing solutions to your sites! If not you've got customers going to your site everyday that you are effectively "turning away", and in these difficult times can any of us afford to do that?
