Don't use hot water.......if any of it hits the glass, it will shatter.

If you don't have any weather tools handy, CAREFULLY use a butter knife along the door and chip away at the ice. I've even used a car key to chip it away once.

Assuming you've tried all other doors first - I'd go for the blow dryer too.
The other thing is pouring windshield wiper fluid (with anti-freeze) around the corners of your door. Should 'soften up' the ice enough to open the door.

I'd use the blowdryer before I started chiseling away at the paint on the car.

And if you use water it doesn't have to be that hot.

I just use normal lukewarm tap water. It is still 50 degrees above the temp of the ice, no need for 100 degree water. Done it a ton of times, even on a car with a chipped windshield and no shattering.

You could try having the car shipped down to Florida. The ice should melt off pretty fast once you get it there.

Happens to my car all the time. I have to park on a street because I'm in the city so I can't use extension cords. I usually chip away with a screwdriver and keep pulling. Eventually it'll open.

Is your car a Chevy?
