You cannot uninstall Direct X. You will need to timewarp to your latest backup or reinstall. Read the specifications before you click OK next time

Here's what I recommend:

Load up Outlook Express or your favorite newsgroup reader.

Create a news account for msnews.microsoft.com.

Go to the directx forum, and post your question there.

Here's what Microsoft says about DirectX in their FAQ:

Q. How do I uninstall DirectX?

A. DirectX 8.1 is a system component and cannot be uninstalled. If there is a problem with the DirectX installation, it can normally be resolved by shutting down all running applications and reinstalling. As mentioned previously, DirectX 8.1 is fully backward-compatible with titles written for previous versions of DirectX. If you are having other problems after installing DirectX 8.1, these can often be resolved by installing updated drivers for your display card, audio card, or input device.

He is talking about version 9,0 BETA... we all know that 8,1 is a port of XP

I know.

I still recommend he take his question to microsoft newsgroups. He probably doesn't have anything to lose by trying a reinstall of 8.1 though.
