Breaking the typical stale designer mold:

Introducing....

themes baby.

Cruise my site in different themes.

I have two more themes I'm working on (in the witching hours after working on client stuff all day of course), but they take an incredible amount of time to create due to the fact that my site is rather massive at this point.... (plus I'm a detail freak & chronic perfectionist).... but, I'd like to put it to the good people of GFY, if you have any suggestions for these other two themes, (or possibly a fifth?) I may be persuaded to create your idea rather than the ones I have slated. (and no, I won't tell you what the other two are.... it's a surprise!)

Have a GREAT weekend everyone, and mahalo, from your friendly neighborhood tattooed island boy. Rock on...

yeah, it tells you that will happen to you right on the front page if you're not using Explorer. I got sick and tired of these shitty wannabe browsers mutilating my stuff, so... now they won't.

Everyone else... thanks. I've been killing myself to put this together.... not only so it looks good, but code-wise too. Definately needed to standardize everything here, cuz updating the backend was taking days... shouldn't take days to do an update. Only about halfway to where I'd like the code to be, but it's a VAST improvement. Plus, I can alter these entire themes in like, 15 seconds now.... site-wide.... hehehe...

thanks again guys... now, how about those new theme suggestions...

technically, I suppose it'd be 5.01
it's the same as 5.0, just better code-wise, and now with themes.

I'm glad to post on this thread which ushered in the apotheosis of online design. Perhaps, I will archive this thread so that I can look back at it fondly in the future. Kinda like a Parisian buying an early Manet, or an Italian buying a Caravaggio, or a German buying an 1848 copy of "The Communist Manifesto" or a left bank Parisian buying the first run copy of Derrida's deconstruction of Plato.

"...This site is specifically designed for viewing with Microsoft Internet Explorer.?
If you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer? you will not be allowed to proceed further and will be redirected to the IE download site..."

uhu-uh, Im not allowed to browse it with my fav. browser mozilla?

.. and how about following some wc3.org standards when it comes to <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.opticalamplitude.com%2F thm-tropic%2FmainV5b.html&charset=%28detect+automatica lly%29&doctype=Inline">html</a> and <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.opticalamplitude.co m%2Fcss%2Ftropic.css&warning=1&profile=css2">css</a> ;)?

Im no big fan of frames either, not to mention they suck with SEs and when you wanna bookmark a particular subsection.

Nice GFX/design, especially the tropical theme.

I don't really think AMP relies on SE traffic.

Amp can do what he wants with his own site, that's his call.

But i hope he's telling his clients when he does non compliant designs what that means to them.

I checked out the tropical one. It looks really nice but it took forever to load. I have DSL and it took almost 30 seconds. Might just be a hiccup somewhere, I don't know. Just thought you should know.

Your stuff is gorgeous, as usual, but WHY did you disable the BACK button? (Actually, I run into this quite a bit and don't understand the design philosophy behind it most of the time. If somebody wants to leave a page, why piss them off?)

Anyway, as a result, you made it more difficult to see the other theme.

sorry.... I don't like what mozilla does to the framework, so no.

yeah, I still got a little code to clean up here and there.... but for the most part, it's pretty tight. The frames are crucial to the overall construction of the site.... that's just the way it is. I dodged using frames for several years because of browser non-compliance and general issues people have with them, but hey.... it's 2002 folks... time to get with the program. ;-)

as far as the SEs go, Redshoe's right.... I don't rely on the SEs.... however, even as I say this, my primary index page is set up the way I prefer for the SEs, and I don't want anything else in the site indexed, and the remainder of the site is set up for that purpose as well.

client work is done with minimal standard inline style code, if any at all. They are delivered fully compliant with all browsers. What they do after that is up to them. The rules I've imposed on my site are for my purposes only.... I don't include this stuff in client work.

Anyway, as a result, you made it more difficult to see the other theme.
I didn't disable the back button.... it only functions that way. What's actually happeneing is you're going to a blank loader page that scans your browser, and then sends you to the theme. (providing you're using IE).... if someone wants to leave the site, any bookmark or typed address will do the job as usual.
Selecting another theme is done easily on each interface with the 'Environment Selector' at the bottom section of the theme. ;-)

sorry.... I don't like what mozilla does to the framework, so no.
Uhm, gecko (mozilla/netscape/etc) should render frames correctly (if you do the frames accordning to the standard). Did you try using this as doctype?
<b>

PHP Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd"
</b>

yeah, I still got a little code to clean up here and there.... but for the most part, it's pretty tight. The frames are crucial to the overall construction of the site.... that's just the way it is. I dodged using frames for several years because of browser non-compliance and general issues people have with them, but hey.... it's 2002 folks... time to get with the program. ;-)
heh, 2002? Frames are 199x, CSS positioning is 2002 ;). Check out <a href="http://www.demonsgate.org/new2/resource_rules.php">this link</a> for a simple example. No frames, no tables. Pretty neat stuff this CSS, should work fine with IE 4.0+ and the new netscape/mozilla built on gecko.

as far as the SEs go, Redshoe's right.... I don't rely on the SEs.... however, even as I say this, my primary index page is set up the way I prefer for the SEs, and I don't want anything else in the site indexed, and the remainder of the site is set up for that purpose as well.
Ok, how do you feel about the bookmarkingproblem? maybe no biggie ...

You were asking about other themes right? Jesus, a ton of fuckers are just telling you what you already know--you're a good designer.

Themes:

1. Sci-FI. Design studio of Mars. Red planet. Green men.

2. Snow scene with animated fireplace and hot-bitch snow vixens

3. Jail. Never underestimate the selling power of prison. Animated homo rapes in prison blues. This will sell and impress your non-porn clients.

4. Inside the human body. Different organs. Animated white blood cells. You could even do some disease angles. Medical market is actually good money for illustrators.

5. Hawaiian pot farm. Fields of green. Hot rasta bitches smokin spliff.

6. Samurai Japan battlefield. Kurosawa tribute. Peasant mutilation.

7. Planet of Endor. Forest scenes. Ewok fellatio.

8. Volcano explosion. You live in Hawaii. Just take a hike with your digital cam.

9. Back of police car. Flashing red and blue--audio effect of siren and chaffing handcuffs. Animated piggies.

Alright, that's enough of the good ideas...you can thank me later.

they don't.... mozilla seems to render them 1 or 2 pixels off.... Netscape always used to do that too... not sure if it still does... haven't had Netscrape on a system in years. However..... the rest of the framework seems to render in tact.... and I know how I can correct the 1 pixel issue to my satisfaction.... so, I probably will.

yeah.. frames do kinda suck... I dig the css positioning! sweet and short code... me likey.... ;-)
I'll hafta try that and see how it works out... the reason I'm using the frames is to postion dead screen center regardless of resolution or monitor size, but hey,... if I can do that with css, I'll dump the frames in a second.

Got some questions though....
1. Why doesn't Mozilla run certain javascript and other javascript it does? Isn't it either on or off? What gives with that?
2. Even if I eliminate the outer frames, I'm still gonna need to use i-framing for a large chunk of stuff.... (that's not really a question I guess.)

thanks for the example link on the css though bro... I'm raping it with my eyes now.... I'll let ya know how it turns out for me.

well, the css looks pretty similar to the css I already have.... only one minor difference.. and that was the lack of the fixed bg 50/50 no repeat... which is cool because that also happens to be the javascript issue I was having with Mozilla... so that's fixed...

however.... what I didn't find was any kind of dynamic positioning to maintain center screen using css. Might be cuz I'm blind and can't see it.... or, might be cuz it doesn't exist.

either way.. once I remove the needless javascript for the fixed internal theme bg, clean up my css, and fix the one pixel offset issue, I'll probably remove the browser blocks.... looks like everything else is cool....

by the way, I was using css on every page except the main, because I wanted some specific stuff on the main pages and was basically just too damn lazy to make a new section in the file... lol

but since it's been pointed out... I guess now I will...

(and I admit.... my css files were a little sloppy.... but I cleaned 'em up)
