I upgraded to XP, but I don't know how to install these drivers!

help!

I bought a laptop - Dell Inspiron 1721. It came with Vista on it, which was slow as fuck on that machine.

So I wiped it off and installed XP, but now I don't have a working network card, bluetooth, etc.

The drivers are all here, but I don't understand how to install them. How do I do this?!

For example, in the "1394 Net Adapter" folder, there is one file - net1394.inf

How do I use this file to make my net adapter work?

If the new OS works better, I'd consider it an upgrade. :D

I'd hit you up on ICQ but I have to be at the office shortly.... if you download that file, you'll see there is no exe.

I chuckled when I saw "upgraded to XP". Its sad, but going retro from Vista back to XP actually would be an upgrade.

My "upgrade" from Vista to XP was almost as good as my upgrade from 98 to XP. Sad, but true.

I'm not sure if the "right click>install" technique is going to solve all of my problems, but that's what I'm doing right now!

169-334-379 if you've got a quick fix for me, thanks!

Is the network card wireless? I bought a laptop with a wireless card brand
new and couldn't get the wireless to work using the facotry installed XP, even
after a couple of days of trying. I was somewhat surprised when the wireless
"just worked" under Linux, apparently automatically using the right driver
from the OS install disk.

Right click on my computer > manage

Then click on device manager, you should see Ethernet Controler with question mark next to it (under Others), right click on it, select Update Drivers, then select the location where net1394.inf is, click next and that's it, enjoy.

Dell is refusing to support any type of XP action on this model. If I had known that, I would have bought a different laptop!

Anywho - I got the internet now, ethernet adapter is working.

Not sure how to get bluetooth working yet, I right click > installed the bluetooth drivers, but no results.

The problem is getting all of the components to work on this computer, I've got Windows XP installed just fine.

At the moment I can't get the wireless internet to come on, but I've got the bluetooth services installed. Grrrr.
