Obama didn't come out of nowhere - you don't win a Senate seat in an important state like Illinois coming out of nowhere, he's spent 25 years achieving and doing. The President should have two things 1)intelligence and reason 2)leadership skills - Obama's been a leader for his entire adult life and nobody questions his intelligence.

I don't think John McCain is a horrible choice - I think Obama is a better choice, the symbolism is important, to Americans and probably moreso to the rest of the world - I do understand why a right wing conservative would fear him, they would fear anybody the Democrats nominated. If they fear him any more than any other Democrat then it's one or both of two things- 1) they fear he actually could be everything his most ardent fans think he is which will change the landscape of politics for a long while 2) he's a Negro

In a sick way I hope McCain wins because when his presidency fails like Bush's has as a CORRECTLY predicted 8 fucking years ago I can laugh in your face. Some people never learn. As a typical old white male Republican I will go on record as saying that I would crawl on my knees through a swamp to vote for Hillary Clinton over Obama. Clinton may be a soulless opportunist who would sell her first born for power, but at least she is not a hardcore leftist radical who pals around with William Ayers and Jeremiah Wright. I would be happy to pull the lever for George McGovern over Obama. Obama is the most dangerously radical candidate any major party has nominated in recent history. His election would fundamentally change the character of the United States (which would please many people here I am sure).

Yea it is amazing since I live in Europe and have not seen Fox News in any format for years. You can disagree with my viewpoint but that does not make me a simpleton. Obama has a consistent pattern of radical associations and activism that go back 20 years. Perhaps he is merely an opportunist and will govern from the center according to the polls Clinton style but I personally do not want to take the chance.

I am a US citizen with a right to vote just like you. I pay US taxes. Pretty sure I have my right to an opinion. Obama's past associations may not trouble you. I respect that opinion, I just happen to disagree. It is still OK to have a different viewpoint from the majority...... right? Or does my refusal to submit to the prevailing groupthink make me a simpleton and a Fox brainwashed sheeple unworthy of having an opinion?

Perhaps freedom of speech and association are outmoded concepts and everyone just needs to get with the program. Perhaps people who insist on having incorrect viewpoints need be "eliminated" like William Ayers says. Perhaps the "pigs" deserve what they get. In the words of Bernardine Dohrn (Ayers' wife) in response to the Manson family killings..... "Dig it! First they killed those pigs and then they put a fork in their bellies. Wild!"

Personally I disagree with Obama on almost every single one of his policy positions, so I would not vote for him under any circumstances. His radical associations and history are why I would prefer a regular poll driven politician like Hillary Clinton than a hardcore "community organizer" leftist like Obama. As to Obama's positions:

Obama supports large capital gain and payroll tax increases, large cuts in military budgets, more regulations on business, gun control, opposition to domestic oil drilling, cap and trade carbon reduction taxes, socialized healthcare, amnesty for illegal immigrants, huge increases in foreign aid, reliance on international law and UN resolutions over US law, and open negotiations with hostile regimes like Iran and Syria.

Just the single act of increasing the capital gains tax to 28% (from 15%), as he proposes, will have a huge negative impact on the markets and investors. Considering the generally negative market outlook, a significant tax increase on investors is not exactly the best way to pump liquidity into the system. He is on record as saying that the negative economic impact of the tax increase does not concern him as it is a matter of "fairness."

He has co-sponsored a bill (Global Poverty Act of 2007) which would require the US to spend 0.7 percent of its gross national product on foreign aid (above what we already spend) for 13 years. That is $845 billion which will be administered through the notoriously corrupt UN.

He is on record as saying he will "cut investments in unproven missile defense systems...... slow our development of future combat systems....." These are the same missile defense systems which have been successfully tested and are being implemented in Eastern Europe right now. Barney Frank is currently proposing a 25% reduction in the defense budget. Obama would sign that into law while McCain certainly would not.

His plan for a cap and trade carbon tax system would add significantly to the already high price of gas and would represent the largest tax increase in the history of the country. It would create a huge new layer of government bureaucracy that would have an expensive impact on almost every aspect of your daily life. (Most human activities have a carbon impact). Obama has been quoted as saying that if someone built a coal fired power plant that they would be "bankrupted" under his tax plan.

Anyway these positions and many others are why I oppose him in addition to his associations with people like Ayers and Wright. There are so many reasons to be opposed to Obama is hard to know where to begin. He is easily the most left-wing candidate to be nominated by the Democrats in my lifetime.
