SEO question for gurus. Inbound links from same IP / different domain.
So lets say I have few pr3-4 domains on same server. Will I get my ass kicked if I link to another domain that I just created that has same IP as other domains.

Yes, you'll be getting a ton of different answers of varying opinions. Here is mine: As long as the content on these domains is not identical, you probably have nothing to worry about. I wouldn't go interlinking dozens of domains however.

As stated, ask 10 people, get 10 different answers. Our opinion: no penalty, but link will have the same weight as an internal link.

You won't get your ass kicked, but you probably won't get any benefits from the linking either...

no incoming links can hurt your sites rank at all.
that is the only answer you should ever listen to. inlinks cannot hurt you, only help you. your scenario sounds like they won't help rank you , but will help googlebot find you. you still need more incoming links from other IP's/hosts/ |

I believe excessive interlinking from the same IP can reduce rankings. I've seen it happen.
...Personal opinion... take from it, what you will.

Everyone saying that it'll be the equivalent of an internal link is right. Google's way too dependent on IP seperation right now, what about people on shared servers? Just because they happen to be on the same box or in the same class C (in the same hosting center), the link shouldn't count?
What nobody's mentioning is that Google is also looking at your whois info to determine if you're just linking to your other sites. Something to consider... |
