Why I Don't Support Obama

I consider myself a Republican but I have voted for Democrats in the past - namely Al Gore and Bill Clinton (2nd term) in recent elections so you can't say I'm just voting party lines.

So, here are 2 reasons for not supporting Obama:

1. Experience
I can almost care less about Obama being a black man. If Colin Powell would have ever been a candidate, I'd be stomping my feet and honking horns in his support. He has years of experience, education and the respect of the military. To say I don't want a black President just isn't a viable retort to any of my concerns.

Obama is educated but he has no experience under his belt. Congress was in session 146 days from the time Obama was sworn in as a Senator until he formed a Presidential exploratory committee. 8-12 years from now, you bet, it would be impossible to argue the case but for now - it just isn't there and if Obama were white, I don't think he would have won the nomination and that is why I said "I could almost not care". I don't really want affirmative action to play a part for filling this position - I want the best qualified of the choices. It's almost like America is so hopped up to get a black man in office, we'll overlook a lot of things to get one there and take the first marginally qualified one we can find - 'cause up til now, Jesse Jackson has been about all we've had to choose from.

2. Religion (I really don't get this one)
For 20 years, Obama was a member of a church with a pastor that preached hatred. Hatred of whites and hatred of America. This isn't disputable. Copies of his sermons are available (his church sells copies of sermons). Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America."

We're told that Obama didn't agree with his preacher but c'mon - you don't go to a church that preaches these types of messages if you don't support the views of the preacher. Is there a shortage of churches I don't know about that prevented Obama from finding a new Church that preached love and hope?

How can anyone just shrug this off and say it's a "Republican smear campaign"?

If if were found out that McCain were to have attended meetings of the KKK for the last 20 years then and say that David Duke "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with" (as Obama said when it was found out) would you simply ignore it? Of course you wouldn't - and I wouldn't expect you to.

I have a real problem with this and I have a real problem with anyone that would turn a blind eye to this for the person holding the most powerful office in the free world. You don't shrug this off. 20 years of support shows a fundamental belief in the messages preached.

And how much anti-white sentiment do you think Obama would be tolerated to make in a sea of white people if elected.

Frankly, I have no problem with Barrack Obama. I genuinely don't think he's racist - its the spin Republicans and the media have put on his church involvement.

I attended church in my younger days - but today I consider myself an atheist. I guess the teachings of the man in the pulpit didn't have such a great effect after all.

you can "ALMOST" care less? That is the dumbest thing i ever heard man. Color simply means nothing, get over it. News sites, politicians, any person in this planet should never even discuss the color of someones skin it's irrelevant, and most certainly irrelevant when it comes to the capability to run a country or not.

If you are in this business and you vote for that palin party you sir should try another job imo. She is anti anything sex and we will be one of her focuses, no doubt about it. Get ready for a federal 25% tax on all our sales and god knows what else.

And my favorite reason that McCain/Palin are a bad choice, if you think Palin will gladly allow stem cell research in the states, which was the dumbest thing Bush opposed in his fantastic 8 year reign, you're incorrect again. We will end up letting Japan do it all and it will cost Americans, including my brother-in-law who has Parkinsons disease, billions to gain the benefits of the research.

Thats a cop out. You are insinuating that there has been some big change with Obama and that church. Fact is he was still attending it as of this year. He had no plans on leaving that church (and I am not sure he left now even really) until it came out about the extreme anti white racism was exposed.

To say that race doesn't play a role in this election is to have blinders on. Pull your head out of the sand. One day we can all hope it doesn't but today, it most certainly does.

The Secret Service attached a detail to Obama earlier than any candidate preceding him. They didn't do that because they heard he throws killer parties.

I'm not sure if the dinosaur shit is legit but I did see the video where she was being protected from witchcraft and her church does seem pretty far out there.

Not only that but I believe Obama/Biden has a hell of a lot more experience then McCain/Palin when you look at the entire ticket. Then when you factor in McCains age/health and the stresses of the job.... Palin as the president? No fucking way.

Lets see Rev wright actually served as a marine which I think gives him the right to speak out anytime he wants. Ron Paul bascially said the same thing about 911 but that was fine.Whats more scary is Sarah's hubby belonged to a party that hates america and wants to breakaway from this country but the press for some reason have given a pass on that. Mccain accepted money from liddy who went to jail for pissing on the constitution again a pass was given.

Bama, or is it supposed to be Obama (bad joke couldn't resist), i never said it doesn't play a role, i said it is moronic to say that you almost dont care he is black. Basically it sounds like you are almost not racist but not quite there yet.

Anyway, i wont argue with you about whether or not ur racist, but i guess I just think it is really sad that race is even a topic in our world, but we will live with that for years i guess.

Hey Bama..how's everything?

Similar points can be made about McCain and his affilliations with right wing extremists...Gordon Liddy, Pastor Rod Parsely, Pastor John Hagee, Shelley Shannon (she shot an abortion doctor). Palin also got 'exorcised' by a witch doctor and her husband was part of a (alleged) secessionist group. It works both ways. You raise valid points but to me, as far as radicalism/religion/extremism are concerned, Obama/Biden are much less extreme than McCain/Palin, especially Palin.

As for experience, yes, he does lack the experience but like I always say, there have been quite a few great politicians to hold little of no political experience before (Abe Lincoln most notably and yes I do realize comparing apples to oranges somewhat). I think people look at it in two different ways. One, take a chance on a unknown. Two, stay with what you know and probably get more of the same. I know alot of people voting for Obama not because of his political views, his change rhetoric, his economic or other policies, etc. They are voting for Obama to send a message that they are tired of the same ole shit. Whether that's gonna change or not remains to be seen. And believe or not, I also know a couple of people who don't think McCain will make it for 4 years and they are terrifed of Palin..

I think this is an unprecedented and untraditional election that has so many different factors in play..

It completely fucked up my ability to search any of the boards for the term "bama" forever. You'd think with all the programmers hanging around someone could make the -Obama work when doing a search but nooooo.....

As for Obama, 8 years of experience under his belt and dumping that preacher, if he's the better choice of the 2, I might just pull the lever for him.

The one thing you HAVE to do to become president in the US (these days) is believe in a god. A christian god so far. Silly Obama would have had no frigging idea he'd be this close to becoming president, he was just doing the usual sucking up to his community base by attending wright's church without any kind of forethought to how it would look if he went for the top job. The ingratiating backfired. I guess I shouldn't say Obama doesn't believe, but based on the above video it's got to be one of those lesser evil/small god type beliefs which is probably as good as you're going to get.

I'm not sure about that but pointing to Wright's church to disprove you're of Muslim faith is like saying "Officer I couldn't have murdered anyone - I was busy robbing the bank when he was shot".

He is not a muslim. He never was, when you say it makes any validity you might have in your argument goes right out the window.

the experience argument (on any side) is a joke. presidents always have an assload of "advisors" surrounding them. it's not like they have to come up with a plan and excute on their own. example: my boss barely knows a jpeg from a gif. he's got little "experience" running a web 2.0 site, but he does. he entrusts me as the experienced person to present him every sensible option, and then make the call.

an unexperienced president would be doing shit like calling foreign countries out for slap-boxing matches, ditching the secret service to go "out with the boys", and accidentally pushing the "nuke 'em" button on the football.

.....all stuff i expected bush to do

It's all much of a muchness to me. They're all equally stupid. If anything I'd rather he went to Wright's church where they weren't cheerleading everything the government does. I'd take that over 20 years in a southern baptist church any day of the week, or the Wasilla pentecostal.

I cant bring myself to vote for Obama or McCain.

I'm just skipping the question on the ballot. Living in California it doesnt matter anyway, Obama owns this state.

I'll be perfectly honest, I don't know much about Pastor Rod Parsely or Pastor John Hagee (other than his gay/Katrina comment). I'll have to do some research before I can respond to his affiliation with those guys. I will say however that affiliation versus attending services of someone is different. I know plenty of folks in this business and will even sit and have a drink with them at the trade show but I'll be damned if I'll do business with them. Perhaps McCain affiliated with them in order to get their follower base to vote for him.

Shelley Shannon - well, she's a pro-life nut-job but at least she isn't a pro "white" life nut-job.

I've seen the Palin "exorcised" video and I've seen better audio dubbing on a Godzilla movie. I'm not saying it's fake and I'm not saying it's real - I'm just saying someone show me a copy where the preacher's mouth and the words in the audio match.

This is what I don't get about the folks that do say that. Yes McCain is old but look at his family - they live to be a ripe old old age. Palin is inexperienced, but she's the backup. Obama is just as inexperienced and he's the starting quarterback. If inexperience is anyone's excuse, they can't vote for Obama based on that and expect anyone to follow that logic.

Secondly, there's a good chance that some nut will attempt to assassinate Obama if he's elected. There was already a news story of a plan by some guys in Denver and the Secret Service believes it's a credible threat as well. Knowing that it is difficult to protect the President from a potential assassin that is willing to trade their life for that of the President - that would leave us with Biden and Biden is only 6 years younger than McCain.

How does President Nancy Pelosi roll off the tongue for anyone?

I didnt' say he was a Muslim. When asked if he was of Muslim faith, he responded that he was a member of Wright's church. My analogy only show's he might have been better served saying he was a Muslim rather than a member of Wright's church.

Yes but they have not had bouts with melanoma (sp?) (the most aggressive type of skin cancer), 4 surgeries and another procedure as recently as July. He won't release his medical records to the public and I think there is a reason for that. Anyways we're nit-picking but my point is that everyone is voting for one person or another for a myriad of reasons, and to be honest, i think the issues is not at the top of most people's list.

Exactly, there is nothing wrong with being a Muslim or an Arab. The majority of them are great people and I feel bad for them all being repudiated as being terrible people that you have to run away from. There is something wrong with being a member of a racist church for 20 years.

Those are 2 pretty non important issues to base your vote on.

What about taxes, science versus religion in regards to medical research and childrens education, iraq and afghanistan, the economic issues, etc.

experience and religious beliefs are pretty minor in comparison with everything else going on, imo.

i also agree that neither obama, mccain or biden are actually religious in the true sense of the word. they do it because you have to if you wanna run for office in this country. palin, on the other hand...shes drinking the koolaid.

A vote for McCain/Palin will leave you jobless if you post here and live in America.
