What revolution happened in the 60's? What we get a bunch of people to stop bathing grow their hair, smoke weed and trip on acid all day? Is that the revolution you are referring to?

Would really require a draft. a bad economy just is not enough to kick start it. Now force some people to go deal with the shit they are happy to ignore on a daily basis and well then people would be on the streets quick.

if thats what you think the 60's was, then i suggest you ask someone about the 60's that actually was a part of it...

from what i gather, it was about awareness and making a conscious choice to not be a part of what people thought was the norm..

of course thats not even scratching the surface, but i didnt live it, i have only heard stories that cant really be described...

Yeah I didn't live it either but I was born in 1968 which makes me a bit closer to the 60's than you.

My dad was 18 in 1964, my mom was 18 in 1965 my uncle was 18 in 1968 so no I don't know a single person that can tell me about what they experienced in the 60's.</sarcasm>

Sorry, I realize that was off topic.
As for the original discussion...

Go listen to the top 10 songs in the country right now. Is the meaningful music and culture going to just appear overnight?

I highly doubt it.

i was 1970... both my parents were hippies.. both my parents came from wealthy families.. they chose to live life by their rules..

as i got older, my dad shared more and more stories with me.. my mom became domesticated and doesnt like to talk about those days...

in any case, i think i missed my calling, but i hope that in my lifetime i get to see people standing up for what they believe in and going against everything that we are taught to believe...

i always wonder what was the catalyst was for the 60's movement...

i think its awesome that you got to live it...

my dad has some amazing stories and i'm sure you do too...

do you ever think that the youth or maybe even the 20-30 somethings could embrace that ideology again?

you have to understand the cold war and how it screwed up everyone..
we would have weekly school drills of what to do when the BOMB hit and this started when i was 6 years old ...the roads were all marked with Civil defense signs of directions to escape the cities when the BOMB hit...

everyday on the news there were stories of how big the latest russian or usa BOMB was..nuclear tests were a common occurance, under ground, in the atmosphere and on pacific atolls...the communists were threatening to take over the world...the US wasnt going to let that happen...the arms race was nuts...every issue of popular science seemed to have blueprints for a home bomb shelter...

when the young people got older, many of them had had enough of that crap and it was pretty easy to get them motivated to protest...there were so many things that needed changing too...

today, i dont see the passion or the anger as yet...hopefully i will live to see it again...

Me too Shemp, August. I've talked at length with my 4 kids (2 girls, 2 boys) about this. They feel totally defeated in regards to national and world affairs. That they have no voice, that nobody is listening. They can't rally to share thoughts, ideas, feelings, like we could. Groups of 10-12 in the park, or the local hangout, are immediately dispersed by the owners or the cops. Just like we did, they need to vent their feelings and opinions. But somehow, over the course of time, it's now breaking some kind of local, state, federal law no matter how they go about it.

they are over working our people over there ... 3,4,5 tours ? Our soldiers have been taken advantage of by somebody that has no idea what sacrifice means ? I think they learned their lessons from Vietnam. Don't start a movement, a draft ... when you have volunteers. bailout everybody just enjoy your suv. now thats over. our people matter

No, I don't see the passion or the anger either. It seems to be swelling though. They've heard about enough of the 'go vote' BS.

Remember the body counts on the nightly news? CBS,NBC,ABC Just like giving the time and temperature.

That's what I did. My parents were hippies and went to Woodstock. They drove an old bus with Dead stickers on it. Granted that was fine for them but I rebelled and decided to go against all that. I decided I wanted good credit a bank account and a Mercedes.
